Most NFL teams would take a 6-3 record if they were also the defending Super Bowl champions. But there’s something about the 2016 Denver Broncos that isn’t pleasing a lot of fans or scaring a lot of NFL teams.

The defense has been inconsistent for much of the season, and the offense looks more lackluster than last season. The Broncos 6-3 record doesn’t seem bad, but they didn’t lose their third game until Week 14 of last season. Obviously, this has been a major step back for the Broncos.

DeMarcus Ware missed time with a broken arm. Derek Wolfe is now injured for two-to-four weeks according to Mike Klis, and Aqib Talib may not be set to return this Sunday. That’s the last thing this defense needs after being crushed by the Oakland Raiders last week.

This isn’t exciting news for a team that has to visit the New Orleans Saints, led by Drew Brees who has been arguably the NFL’s best quarterback thus far. He put up a convincing effort on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs two weeks ago and led his team to a home win against the Seattle Seahawks and the Legion of Boom.

Chris Harris Jr. and Bradley Roby have to account for the NFL’s most productive receiving trio of Brandin Cooks, Michael Thomas and Willie Snead. Von Miller and the pass-rush face one of the NFL’s most dominant offensive lines.

And with all the injuries, the Broncos don’t have much margin for error on defense. Sunday will be a huge test when it comes to seeing if someone will step up and lead this team back on the winning track.
