The 2021 All-Star Game will be hosted by the Atlanta Braves, Major League Baseball announced on Wednesday.

It will mark the third time Atlanta has hosted the league’s premier summer event, with all three coming at different venues.

The Braves first hosted an All-Star Game at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium in 1972. Turner Field was the host in 2000. And now the Braves’ newest ballpark, SunTrust Park, will get the honor in 2021.

“Major League Baseball is pleased to award our 2021 All-Star Game to the Braves and the City of Atlanta, which partnered on a compelling All-Star Week bid, commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement on Wednesday. “We look forward to showcasing the best of our sport and the Braves’ new home, SunTrust Park, to a global audience.”

Braves officials have been preparing an All-Star Game bid since the ballpark opened in 2017.

“When we built SunTrust Park and The Battery Atlanta we envisioned our complex would be the perfect setting for an All-Star Game and we are thrilled to be able to showcase the ballpark, Cobb County and the City of Atlanta to the world,” Braves chairman Terry McGuirk said in Wednesday’s press release.

The news itself wasn’t exactly a well-guarded secret. The Braves already had All-Star Game signage up at SunTrust Park prior to the announcement. A leaked report last week also pointed to Atlanta being the host.

Nonetheless it’s an exciting day for Atlanta sports fans as MLB’s elite will all officially converge there in the summer of 2021.

The 2021 MLB All-Star Game will make it three straight years that the city of Atlanta will host a major sporting event. This year’s Super Bowl was played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. That giant facility will also host the 2020 Men’s Final Four.

MLB’s All-Star week is now locked in for the next three summers. The Cleveland Indians will host the 90th All-Star Game at Progressive Field on July 9. The Los Angeles Dodgers will host the 2020 festivities next summer.
