GRAYLING — With a pair of shutout wins over Grayling earlier this season, the Boyne City girls’ soccer team was favorited in their Division 3 district opener Tuesday.

Still, when the opening whistle blew, the Ramblers didn’t lean on past success, they made more happen.

Boyne City advanced within its district tournament Tuesday with a 7-0 victory over the host Vikings, moving them into Thursday’s D3 district championship match.

Goals came spread around the Rambler lineup with Ella Walsh and Addie Patton each nothing a pair of scores and Braydin Noble, Gabby Dunlap and Mackensey Wilson each scoring one.

Noble, Wilson, Elly Day and Mira Hauger also all had an assist and Maggi McHugh earned her sixth shutout of the year in goal with one save.

It came as a third shutout victory over Grayling this season and moved the Ramblers to 11-2-2 overall on the year.

Both those losses for Boyne came against Elk Rapids this season and they’ll try to avoid a third when they next meet the Elks in the district championship match at 5 p.m., Thursday, June 1.

It comes as a ranked vs. ranked final, with the Elks heading in at No. 3 and Boyne City No. 13 in Division 3. Boyne previously took losses of 4-0 and 5-1 against the Elks.
