Blue Jackets sign F Gerbe

The Columbus Blue Jackets signed forward Nathan Gerbe to a one-year, two-way NHL/AHL contract for the rest of the season.

Per NHL rules, Gerbe will be placed on waivers for the purposes of assignment to the Cleveland Monsters, Columbus' American Hockey League affiliate, the team announced Wednesday.

Gerbe, 30, registered 138 points (58 goals, 80 assists) and 172 penalty minutes in 394 career NHL games with the Buffalo Sabres and Carolina Hurricanes from 2008-16. He added three goals and an assist in nine Stanley Cup playoff contests.

Gerbe posted four NHL seasons of 25 or more points. He tied his career high in goals (16) and points (31) in a career-high 81 games with Carolina in 2014-15.

The 5-foot-4, 176-pound Oxford, Mich., native spent the past two campaigns with Geneve-Servette HC in the National League (Switzerland), posting 35 points (13 goals, 22 assists) and 107 penalty minutes in 38 games. He recorded two goals, five assists and 85 penalty minutes in 19 games with the Swiss team this season.
