Ivy League kids are pretty smart. They might be prone to forgetful moments, such as forgetting the kicking tee for a road game, but that just allowed Dartmouth kicker R.C. Willenbrock his moment of genius.
According to USA Today, Willenbrock improvised and made a kicking tee out of a water bottle.
According to the paper, Willenbrock and Dartmouth had to figure out something after not just forgetting their tee at home, but after Yale took back a tee it had initially said Dartmouth could borrow.
Willenbrock had to get creative.
"I saw a water bottle, and I was like, 'this will work perfectly,'" Willenbrock told USA Today.
He cut down the bottle, used some athletic tape, and voila. The paper said that starting kicker Riley Lyons, using the makeshift tee Willenbrock prepared for kickoffs, averaged 60 yards per kickoff with a pair of touchbacks and Dartmouth beat Yale. This isn't going to lead to Dartmouth's kickers seeing what else they can form into kicking tees during future games.
"Let's just say that no one is forgetting the kicking bag anytime soon," Willenbrock told the paper.
