Bills’ Gabriel Davis on opportunity: ‘I’m going to make the most of it’

Gabriel Davis is ready for the chance he’s going to get against the Carolina Panthers.

Last week, Davis saw extended playing time really for the first time this season. That was because of Emmanuel Sanders going down with a knee injury.

The veteran has already been ruled out against the Panthers, so Davis knows he’ll be getting more run on offense.

He’s ready.

“I’m just blessed with the opportunity that I get to go out there and finally show what I can do,” Davis said this week. “Now that I have this opportunity, I’m going to make the most of it and not let those guys down.”

Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Davis played a season-high 83 percent of snaps. With them, he notched five catches for 43 yards and a touchdown. Included in that is a critical fourth-down grab.

Because of Sanders’ addition this past offseason, Davis was not given a chance to build on his successful rookie season.

Last year, he had 35 catches for 599 yards and seven touchdowns. However, with four games left and potentially some extensive playing time for a few weeks? Davis could still surpass those.

Davis has 24 catches for 385 yards and four touchdowns this season.

Despite the lack of playing time, Davis has tried to keep his head on straight. He has used a justifiable reason for not getting upset.

“There’s guys all around the league that are kind of in similar situations,” Davis said. “That’s kind of what it was for me and I respected it, and whenever I went out there, I made sure I could make the most of it because that’s my job and that’s my role.”

As the numbers show, he’s done that role well.

Because of that and his promising rookie season, Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen wasn’t hesitating in raving about Davis this week.

“Gabe has shown and given every reason to prove why he should be out on the field,” Allen said via video conference. “He just continues to make plays and we’re going to need him through this next stretch.”

Even with the changed circumstances, Davis will still want to remain even-keeled while grabbing his opportunity by the horns/
