OSU takes second to Iowa State

Oklahoma State couldn't close out any championship matches, other than Daton Fix at 133 pounds, and the Pokes finished second with 141.5 points. Following Yonger Bastida's upset win in the heavyweight match, Iowa State finished with 152.5 points.

OSU's Dustin Plott lost a major decision in the 184-pound final to Northern Iowa's top-seeded and undefeated Parker Keckeisen.

Daton Fix wins fifth Big 12 crown

With a subtle gesture, simply holding his hand in the air with all five fingers extended, Oklahoma State’s Daton Fix celebrated his record as the first five-time Big 12 Conference wrestling champion.

Fix defeated Iowa State’s Evan Frost with an 8-5 decision in the 133-pound title bout.

Cowboys come up short at 125, 149

OSU redshirt freshmen Troy Spratley and Jordan Williams will have to settle for runner-up honors in their first trip to the Big 12 wrestling championships.

Spratley gave up a late takedown that allowed Wyoming’s Jore Volk to pull ahead for a 3-2 victory.

Williams, who suffered a shoulder injury in Saturday’s semifinal win, was clearly protecting that side of his body in the title match and the match was called 45 seconds into the second period via injury default.

The losses sealed OSU’s fate in the team race, giving Iowa State the Big 12 title.

OSU trails by 7 entering finals

Iowa State goes into the championship round with a seven-point lead on Oklahoma State for the team title.

That means the Cowboys are still alive for the crown, but need at least two more wins in the finals than Iowa State. OSU has four finalists and Iowa State has five. The teams matchup in just one weight class, 133 pounds.

List of OSU placers

OSU will have four wrestlers in the finals on Sunday night, but the other six all finished sixth place or better. Here are the OSU wrestlers who placed in the consolation bracket.

141: Tagen Jamison, finished fourth with 8-1 loss in third-place match.

157: Teague Travis, finished fourth with 5-4 loss in third-place match.

165: Izzak Olehnik, won third-place match with 5-1 decision.

174: Brayden Thompson, won third-place match with 8-2 decision.

197: Luke Surber, finished sixth, getting pinned in fifth-place match.

HWT: Konner Doucet, won fifth-place match with 4-1 decision.

List of OU placers

Here are the OU wrestlers who placed in the consolation bracket.

133: Jace Koelzer, won fifth-place match via medical forfeit.

149: Willie McDougald, won fifth-place match via medical forfeit.

157: Jared Hill, finished sixth with technical fall loss in fifth-place match.

165: Cael Carlson, won seventh-place match with 2-1 decision.

174: Tate Picklo, finished eighth with major decision loss in seventh-place match.

197: Stephen Buchanan, won third-place match with 6-4 decision.

HWT: Josh Heindselman, finished fourth after 8-0 loss in third-place match.

OU’s Josh Heindselman to wrestle for 3rd

Josh Heindselman will be in the third-place match at heavyweight after a 4-2 decision over West Virginia’s Michael Woflgram.

OSU’s Konner Doucet could’ve set up another Bedlam showdown between the two, but he was defeated in the consolation semifinals and will wrestle for fifth place. Doucet was defeated by Missouri's Zach Elam, who will face Heindselman for third.

OU’s Stephen Buchanan wins Bedlam battle

Capped by a last-second takedown, OU’s second-seeded Stephen Buchanan took a 6-2 decision over OSU’s Luke Surber in the consolation semifinals at 197 pounds.

Buchanan led 3-2 as the clock wound down, but with Surber shooting for a takedown, Buchanan used his aggression against him to score three points at the buzzer.

Buchanan will wrestle for third, with Surber moving into the fifth-place match. Both were already assured of NCAA automatic bids reaching the top six. That was critical for Surber, who was the No. 7 seed and was pinned in his first match of the tournament.

Three more Cowboys move to 3rd place matches

Teague Travis came out on top in a Bedlam battle in the consolation semifinals. The OSU 157-pounder topped OU’s Jared Hill with a 7-2 decision to advance to the third-place match.

And the Cowboys will compete for third at 165 as well, after Izzak Olejnik advanced with an 11-1 major decision. The top of the 165 bracket played out as expected with the top two seeds meeting in the finals and third-seeded Peyton Hall of West Virginia taking on fourth-seeded Olejnik in the third-place match.

And at 174, OSU freshman Brayden Thompson moved into the third-place match where he’ll face Iowa State’s M.J. Gaitan in what will be an important match for team scoring.

OSU’s Tagen Jamison advances in consolation

With six wrestlers still capable of finishing as high as third place, the consolation rounds will be key for Oklahoma State on Sunday.

It got off to a good start, with 141-pounder Tagen Jamison earning his way into the third-place match with an 11-6 decision over South Dakota State’s Clay Carlson.

Jamison, the No. 2 seed, will face sixth-seeded Josh Edmond of Missouri.

OU’s Jace Koelzer to wrestle for fifth

Unseeded at 133 pounds, Jace Koelzer fought his way into an NCAA bid on Saturday night, and now he’ll wrestle for fifth place.

Koelzer was defeated in the consolation semifinals Sunday, but will face Cal Baptist’s Hunter Leake for fifth place later in the day.

OU 149-pounder Willie McDougald will also wrestle for fifth after losing a 19-5 major decision in a battle of 1 vs. 2. Top-seeded Casey Swiderski of Iowa State defeated second-seeded McDougald in the consolation semifinals.
