Cincinnati Bearcats fifth-year senior men's golfer Ty Gingerich has earned a bid to the NCAA's Purdue Regional, May 13-15. Gingerich will tote his C-Paw bag at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.

Gingerich advanced by winning the Big 12 men's individual title April 24 at Whispering Pines in Texas. Gingerich had three straight birdies on the back nine and recorded his first college win after finishing second three times. His 72.42 career stroke average is currently second in school history to former teammate Sam Jean.

The top five teams in each of the six regionals, as well as the top individual not on any of those squads, will advance to the national championship in Carlsbad, Calif. (May 24-29).

Bearcat-Boilermaker connections

This trip will be a homecoming of sorts for the Russiaville, Indiana native, whose father, Rex, pitched at Purdue, while his brother, Weston, is a current member of the baseball team. It's been a successful spring for Gingerich who just completed his finance degree last week.

This also marks the UC golf program's third straight year in the postseason, the best streak in school history. The prior two instances saw the first-ever team appearance, at the Las Vegas Regional in 2023, while Jean qualified as an individual in Columbus in 2022.

Other honored Cincinnati swingers

Austin Squires, who competed in the 2017 and 2019 Regionals, is the only Bearcat with multiple bids. Other representatives include David Tepe (2013), Jon Nichols (1974), Geoff Hensley (1969) and George McManis (1965). Squires' 21st-place finish in 2017 was the highest in school history.

The other competing teams include (in seed order) Vanderbilt, Arizona, Florida, New Mexico, Purdue, San Diego State, Mississippi State, Indiana, College of Charleston, Stetson, Colorado State, Southern Illinois and Tennessee Tech.
