BHS, Rushville advance to XC regional

Oct. 16—CONNERSVILLE — Sectional 18 was hosted by Connersville Saturday and two local teams advanced out of the sectional to the regional for both boys and girls.

For the boys, Richmond won the team title with 40 points. Batesville was second with 77. Northeastern took third with 113. Hagerstown finished fourth with 113 and Rushville was fifth with 133. Those five teams qualify for the regional at Shelbyville Saturday.

Richmond's Alex Orihuela won the race 16:42.6.

For the girls, East Central won the team title with 25, edging out Batesville with 33. Richmond was a distant third with 108 followed by Centerville fourth 116 and Rushville fifth 143.

East Central sophomore Callie Bentley won the race in 19:38.7.

Batesville

Jacob Chapman led the Bulldogs, placing fifth. Isaac Trossman was 10th and Cannon Clark was 15th.

Just missing out in the top 20 was Eli Loichinger and Deev Ranka, placing 24th and 25th respectively. Finishing out the varsity seven was Benjamin Adams 32nd and Ethan Rahschulte 36th.

Although the girls placed their top five girls in the top 10 of the race, it still wasn't good enough to beat the Lady Trojans of East Central.

Those Lady Bulldogs in the top 10 were led by Kaylynn Bedel, placing third. Lexyine Harris was fifth with Megan Allgier right behind her at sixth. The ninth and 10th spots were held by Samanthan Adams and Bayleigh Demaree.

Rushville

Rushville was seeded sixth for both the boys and girls, but stepped up in the competition to take fifth in both races.

Leading the way for the Lions was junior Hunter Parmerlee in 14th. Logan Jacobs finished 22nd followed by Isaac Schelle 25th, Charlie Sterrett 31st, Dustin King 41st, Kyle Jacobs 45th and Jacob Branson 66th.

"He ran such a smart race and held his own among the competition. Logan Jacobs and Isaac Schelle stepped up huge when senior Charlie Sterrett was fighting through a tough physical and emotional race. Kyle Jacobs and Jacob Branson also finished in varsity spots. These boys, along with Dustin King fighting through the final seconds, made this a huge team win for their lone senior in his last cross country sectional race," Coach Tush said. The Lions are still alive for another race.

Leading the Lady Lions was Josie Corn (13th) who continues to hang tough as the second fastest freshman in the area. Close behind were her teammates Mady Hankins (30th), Melaney Mahan (31st) Kendra Jacobs (32nd), Jentri Wallace (37th), Mia Norvell (38th), and Jorja Ellis (43rd).
