PAM MALDONADO: The PGA heads to Maryland to play at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farms. I'm Pam Maldonado and I've got my picks for the Wells Fargo Championship. Previously, this event was held at the Quail Hollow Golf Club in North Carolina. However, since this course is now playing host to the 2022 Presidents Cup, we're headed to Maryland instead.

There have been two previous tour stops here in 2017 and in 2018, but what we know, it is over 7,100 yards, a par 70, and there are only two par 5's, one of which is a pretty gnarly 619 yard par 5, while the other extends to 560. You have wall to wall bent grass, narrow fairways, really thick rough, small greens and plenty of water, which makes this course pretty difficult.

There's only two players I like to contend this week, starting first with Corey Conners. Minus 125 for a top 2020, 20 to 1 for a win. 13th in driving accuracy, ranked seventh in a model where you can buy an accuracy with approach greens in regulation and around the green. On bent grass surfaces Conners has seven top 20 finishes in his last 10. On courses that require accuracy off the tee, Conners has five top 25s in his last six. And looking at recent form, he's been doing pretty well. Since missing the cut back in February, Conners has four top 20 finishes in six events, including sixth place at the Masters.

Player two, Seamus Power. Plus 120 for a top 20, 40 to 1 for a win. Now Power is a little further down the board when it comes to driving accuracy, ranked 37th, however, when you combine all of the data points that I mentioned, Power is top five. What I like about him is that he has eight full recorded rounds here, one of the few players who do.

What I like about Power as of late is that he gained five strokes off the tee at The Players and he gained three strokes off the tee at the Masters. Perhaps he's starting to find some of that form that he had earlier in the season, because before he had three missed cuts, he had six top 20 finishes, three of which were in the top 10, including winning the 2021 Barbasol event back in July. That was a bent grass event.

So those are two players that I like to contend this week in the PGA at the Wells Fargo Championship. Looking to Corey Conners and Seamus Power.
