Betting: Are the Padres a great value bet to win the World Series?

- Here are my way-too-early Major League Baseball futures. Let's start with the World Series. The LA Dodgers are favored to win the World Series at plus-350, but I'm actually going with the San Diego Padres at plus-900. The Padres finished fifth in pitching WAR, scored the third-most runs, and stole the most bases. They have the best pitching rotation in the league right behind the Dodgers, and their lineup is full of talent.

My next pick to win the World Series is the New York Mets at plus-1,200. Tons of money has been pouring in on the Mets to win the World Series, and they actually opened up at plus-2,500. But I still think there's value here. The Mets led the National League in batting average and ranked second in on-base percentage. They have a new owner, they made some great moves this offseason, they've got a ton of depth in their lineup, and their pitching rotation should be in much better shape.

And another future I like is a division winner-- the Minnesota Twins to win the AL Central at plus-140. Now, the Twins have been kind of quiet this offseason, and they've let some talent go in free agency. But if they can keep their pitching similar to last year and improve on offense, they can win their third straight Al Central title.
