Best Bets on Dallas Cowboys for end of season awards

Yahoo Sports’ Senior NFL Writer Charles Robinson and Fantasy Analyst Matt Harmon discuss the BetMGM lines they like involving a couple big names from America’s Team for MVP and Coach of the Year.

Video Transcript

CHARLES ROBINSON: I want to throw to bet MGM lines that are out there that I think are interesting and worth people taking a look at. And they involve people that you and I have talked about. First off, MVP. I'm hearing everybody look at Dak Prescott, the MGM line is 20 to 1 right now with Dak Prescott plus 2000. That's the guy, that's the MVP. I'm going to tell you right now, if you want to take a flyer, and a running back is not one MVP since 2012 and Adrian Peterson did it.

But I'll tell you, Ezekiel Elliott 125 to 1 right now, MVP odds. Which I get because look, it's been an absolute quarterback show forever when it comes to MVP voting. But I can tell you this, if Ezekiel Elliott is running behind a fully healthy offensive line and Mike McCarthy is serious about this really being an important run first kind of team. Let's run, establish dominance, and protect that kind of team, Zeke and particularly the 218 pound Zeke, could do more damage than maybe a lot of us expect.

And one other thing I want to talk about here, and this is probably going to surprise some people. But I think it's more just sort of how history works. Mike McCarthy, everyone sitting there saying, hey, best odds to be fired first. A lot of people think Mike McCarthy be the first.

Well I'm going to tell you this, number one, he's not a terrible coach. And I've written about it and I've been critical of Mike McCarthy. But they did have more injuries and a more chaotic season I think roster wise than anybody did last year in the NFL. And yet, Mike McCarthy still managed toward the end to pick themselves up a little bit off the mat despite those injuries.

What I think is interesting, AP coach of the year Mike McCarthy is a 25 to 1 shot. If you got a tiny little bit of money, you want to throw it out there just on a flyer, the guys who end up winning AP coach of the year, they're not the coaches who went 13 in 3 last year. They're not the coaches who went 14 and 2. I think Mike McCarthy is one of those guys who people are so beating him up at this point. If he puts up a good season, if he's an 11 in 6 kind of guy this year, some people are going to go, wow what a great job Mike McCarthy did.

And I think voters lean. And I am an AP coach of the year voter, I know we lean into the coaches who are able to really turn around situations from one year to the next. I would say 25 to 1, if you have a little bit of money, those bet MGM odds on Mike McCarthy actually look a decent for a fly.

MATT HARMON: I love that. Yeah, I totally don't buy into this idea that he could be one of the first coaches fired. I mean he has like the reason that we all weren't excited about McCarthy when the Cowboys hired him as he wasn't this Lincoln Riley, sexy name [? typewrite. ?] McCarthy is a steady the ship type of guy, even if I just took a shot at him from like offensive creativity standpoint.

But at the same time, he's a good coach. He's fine. He's going to get the job done. And I love your point too about like they'll give him credit if things turn around.

Especially like we haven't talked about the defense at all, but like if the hiring of Dan Quinn goes well and the defense goes from the stone worst to the 20th or 18th best defense or something like that, you know Micah Parsons has really hit as the rookie linebacker there. I think voters could give McCarthy some credit there, even if it was kind of his idea to hire Mike Nolan in the first place out of nowhere. So be that as it may, I love that call there.
