Beer, water bottles thrown onto court during Texas Tech basketball home game vs. Texas

A flagrant foul by Texas' Brock Cunningham set off a wild chain of events in United Supermarkets Arena.

The Longhorns led the Texas Tech basketball team 66-42 with 10:15 left in the second half when Cunningham leveled Texas Tech's Darrion Williams into the stands and a part of the television announcer's stand. A small scuffle broke out after the play between players from both teams, but it was ultimately cooled down.

As officials went to the monitor to look at the play, a full can of beer was tossed onto the court from the stands. Soon multiple water bottles were also heaved onto the floor, prompting Tech coach Grant McCasland to get on the microphone to plead with fans to stop.

"Listen to me, it's gotta stop," McCasland told the sold out crowd from midcourt inside United Supermarkets Arena. "It's gotta stop. ... Am I clear?"

Tech was assessed a technical foul for the water bottles. Cunningham was assessed a Flagrant II foul and was ejected from the game. As he exited the arena, he gestured to the crowd, which led to more items being thrown in his direction.

In the student section, a fight broke out and one student had to be carried out by about five security officers. Fans who threw items at Cunningham were later identified and escorted out of the game as well.
