Baylor cruises past Texas Tech women's basketball after Brittney Griner jersey retirement

Baylor retired Brittney Griner's No. 42 jersey just before the Bears tipped off against Texas Tech on Sunday.

Griner had plenty of success playing the Lady Raiders, but she was part of an upset loss in Lubbock as the No. 1-ranked team in 2011. Tech hasn't won in the series since.

No. 21 Baylor continued its dominance with a 61-32 victory, its 30th consecutive over the Lady Raiders. Tech will return to action Wednesday on the road at Texas.

Lady Raiders offense has worst game of season

Slow starts on offense have plagued Tech, especially in recent games. Sunday was a new low.

The Lady Raiders scored their fewest points in any half this season to trail 27-13 at halftime. Tech is averaging 23 first-half points over its past five games. The Lady Raiders have failed to reach 30 points before halftime in nine conference games.

Tech shot 5 of 18 (28.8%) from the field and committed 17 turnovers, which led to 16 Baylor points.

It didn't get much better from there. Tech's 32 points were also the worst of the season. The previous low was 46. The Lady Raiders totaled 29 turnovers and shot 29.5% for the game.

Jada Wynn returns for Tech; Arike, Merritt still out

Tech got a bit healthier but still missed two players against the Bears.

Jada Wynn, who missed the past three games in concussion protocol, returned Sunday. She finished with six points on 2 of 7 shooting, adding four rebounds in her first action since Feb. 3 at Cincinnati. She played 26 minutes.

Elina Arike and Jordyn Merritt remain in concussion protocol and were unavailable at Baylor. Arike hasn't played since the Cincinnati game, and Merritt has now missed two consecutive games. Merritt had played in the first 25 games.

Texas Tech losing streak continues

The Lady Raiders have lost five in a row after getting to 5-4 in Big 12 play. It's the team's longest losing streak since losing seven consecutive during the 2021-22 season.
