Brittney Griner history vs. Texas Tech: No. 1 upset loss, an ejection and plenty of blocks

Baylor women's basketball will retire Brittney Griner's No. 42 jersey at a ceremony Sunday before tipoff of its Big 12 game against Texas Tech.

Griner had some memorable games against the Lady Raiders, going 8-1 in four seasons. The lone loss is one of the great results in Tech history.

Here's a look back at Griner's matchups against the Lady Raiders.

Texas Tech upsets No. 1 Baylor

When Tech beat Baylor 56-45 on Feb. 19, 2011, it marked the third time in program history the Lady Raiders beat the No. 1-ranked team. A sophomore Griner had 15 points, six rebounds and five blocks in the loss in front of 10,201 fans at United Spirit Arena. Griner shot 6 of 13, and the Bears were 15 of 58 (25.9%) as a team.

Griner scores 40 points in Lubbock

Griner's largest scoring output against Tech came in a 90-60 win Jan. 30, 2013, in Lubbock. The future player of the year totaled 40 points on 17 of 25 shooting. She added 15 rebounds and seven blocks. It was the 100th consecutive game Griner scored in double figures.

A freshman Griner gets ejected

In her second matchup against Tech, Griner scored 21 points and was ejected for punching a player in a 69-60 win March 3, 2010, in Lubbock. According to several reports, Griner punched Tech's Jordan Barncastle in the face. Then-Baylor coach Kim Mulkey told The Associated Press, "There's no place for that in sports. It was ugly for women's basketball."

Block leader got her share against Tech

Griner finished with an NCAA-record 748 blocks, and she got plenty against the Lady Raiders. She had at least five blocks in every matchup her final three seasons. Complete box scores for her freshman season were not available. Griner had three games against Tech with at least seven blocks her final three seasons.

Brittney Griner stats vs. Texas Tech

Griner averaged 20.4 points in nine games against Tech, scoring at least 10 in each. She averaged 9.7 rebounds and 6.3 blocks against the Lady Raiders over her final three seasons. She posted at least four double-doubles against Tech.
