Baxter girls stay unbeaten, score first win over BCLUW

Dec. 12—CONRAD — Strong first and third quarters and another solid defensive performance helped the Baxter girls basketball team overcome another tough shooting night during a road game against BCLUW on Tuesday.

The Bolts led 10-2 after one quarter and outscored the Comets 14-2 in the third during a 39-22 victory in Iowa Star Conference South Division play.

Bree Buswell led the Bolts with 14 points, two rebounds, two assists and three steals and Mandee Selover registered eight points and six rebounds.

Emie Tuhn tallied seven points, six boards and six steals, Abbie Meyer added four points, five rebounds and four steals and Kendyl Stevenson filled up the box score with five points, two rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Emma Ziesman finished with three rebounds and two steals.

The Bolts (4-0 overall, 3-0 in the conference) shot 26 percent from the floor, made 3-of-26 from 3-point range and hit only 10-of-22 from the free-throw line.

Baxter also turned the ball over 24 times and was out-rebounded 36-25.

Klayre Gallentine led BCLUW with eight points and five boards, but the Comets (1-3, 1-2) committed 42 turnovers.

The win for Baxter was the first over BCLUW in five tries since the two teams started playing in 2017.

Baxter 58, Tripoli 9

BAXTER — Three players scored in double-figures and Meyer had the best game of her young career during the Bolts' 58-9 thrashing of Tripoli on Saturday.

Tuhn hit six 3s and scored a game-high 19 points, while Buswell (12) and Meyer (11) also scored in double-digits.

The Bolts led 21-2 after one and outscored the Panthers (1-5) 16-2 in the second and 12-0 in the third.

Tuhn tallied 19 points, four rebounds and six steals. She was 6-of-11 from 3-point range.

Buswell finished with 12 points, five assists and six steals and Meyer's first career double-double included 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Selover collected nine points, eight boards, five assists and six steals, Stevenson dished out six assists and swiped five steals and Ziesman put in five points.

The Bolts shot 41 percent from the floor, made 6-of-20 from 3 and buried 12-of-22 from the line. They also committed 18 turnovers.
