BASEBALL: 5 Rogers County teams learn 4A regional assignments

Apr. 22—Rogers County is set to witness an exhilarating display of baseball talent as a handful of teams compete in the Class 4A regional tournaments.

Among the notable contenders, Verdigris and Inola emerged victorious in their respective districts, earning the privilege to host regionals on their home turf. Additionally, Oologah secured the opportunity to host a regional by finishing second in its district.

Meanwhile, Sequoyah and Catoosa must travel to face their regional opponents on foreign grounds.

The stakes are high as these teams vie for regional championships. The winners of the 16 regional tournaments will advance to the super regionals next week, where the competition will intensify.

The super regionals will ultimately determine which teams earn a coveted spot in the state tournament.

VERDIGRIS

Verdigris will be hosting the Class 4A Regional 13 tournament after winning District 4A-7.

The Cardinals, with an overall record of 20-8, finished district play with a 12-2 record, securing the spot as a host in the regional tournament.

The tournament will kick off on Thursday with three games scheduled. At 11 a.m., Mannford will face off against Poteau, while Verdigris will take on Mannford later in the day at 1:30 p.m. The final game of the day will see Verdigris battling it out against Poteau at 4 p.m.

If one team is eliminated by losing twice on Day 1, the tournament will continue on Day 2 with two more games. Game 4 will take place at 4 p.m., featuring the remaining teams. If necessary, Game 5 will be played at 6:30 p.m.

Alternatively, if all teams have one loss after Day 1, the tournament will proceed to Day 2 with a different game plan. Game 4 and Game 5 will be played between the two lowest-seeded teams. The winner of Game 4 will then go on to play against the highest-seeded team.

INOLA

Inola is gearing up to host the Class 4A Regional 11 tournament following its District 4A-6 championship.

The Longhorns have been in exceptional form this season, boasting an overall record of 25-7 while finishing with a 10-2 record in district play.

The tournament is scheduled to kick off on Thursday with four games. At 11 a.m., Inola will take on Miami. Following that, at 1:30 p.m., Skiatook and Broken Bow will face off. The winners of Game 1 and Game 2 will compete in Game 3 at 4 p.m., while the losers face each at 6:30 p.m.

Excitement will continue to build on Friday as the tournament progresses.

Game 5, featuring the team that emerged victorious in Game 4 and the loser of Game 3, is set for 4 p.m. After that, the winner of Game 5 will battle against the team that emerged as the winner of Game 3 at 6:30 p.m.

If necessary, the regional tournament will reach its climax on Saturday with Game 7, scheduled for 2 p.m.

OOLOGAH

Oologah will be hosting the Class 4A Regional 14 tournament after placing second in the District 4A-7 competition.

The Mustangs, with an overall record of 16-10, finished district play with an 11-3 record.

The tournament is set to begin on Thursday with four games. The first game will begin at 11 a.m., featuring Oologah against Stilwell. At 1:30 p.m., North Rock Creek will face off against Checotah. Later in the day at 4 p.m., the winners of Game 1 and Game 2 will battle it out while the losers of those contests play at 6:30 p.m.

On Friday, the action will continue with Game 5 scheduled for 4 p.m. This game will feature the team that emerged victorious in Game 4 and the loser of Game 3. The winner of Game 5 will advance to Game 6 at 6:30 p.m. Friday against the winner of Game 3.

If necessary, the tournament will culminate on Saturday with Game 7, scheduled for 2 p.m.

SEQUOYAH

Sequoyah is set to compete in the Class 4A Regional 10 tournament, which will be held at Stigler.

After a commendable performance in District 4A-6 competition, the Eagles secured a third-place finish with a district record of 8-4 while garnering an overall record of 21-10.

The tournament will kick off on Thursday with four games. The action begins at 11 a.m. as Stigler takes on Cleveland in Game 1. Following that, at 1:30 p.m., Sequoyah will face off against Vinita in Game 2.

The winners of Game 1 and Game 2 will then clash in Game 3 at 4 p.m., while the losers of those two games will compete in Game 4 at 6:30 p.m.

Friday will see the tournament continue with two crucial matchups.

At 4 p.m., the winner of Game 4 will battle against the loser of Game 3 in Game 5. This game will determine which team progresses to take on the winner of Game 3 in Game 6 at 6:30 p.m.

If necessary, the tournament will extend to Saturday with the final game set for 2 p.m.

CATOOSA

Catoosa is gearing up to participate in the Class 4A Regional 12 tournament, hosted by Sallisaw.

The Indians concluded District 4A-7 competition in seventh place out of eight teams with a district record of 2-12. Their overall record for the season stands at 7-19.

The regional tournament will commence on Thursday with four games. Catoosa will kick off its tournament journey by facing off against Sallisaw in Game 1, scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

Following that, at 1:30 p.m., Glenpool will take on Muldrow in Game 2. The winners of Game 1 and Game 2 will then clash in Game 3 at 4 p.m., while the losers of those two games will compete in Game 4 at 6:30 pm.

Friday's schedule will witness two critical matchups, adding to the intensity of the tournament. At 4 p.m., the winner of Game 4 will square off against the loser of Game 3 in Game 5. The excitement will reach new heights at 6:30 p.m., as the winner of Game 3 battles against the winner of Game 5 in Game 6.

If necessary, the tournament will extend to Saturday with the final game set for 2 p.m.
