Baker Mayfield passes physical, officially completes trade to Panthers

For Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns, it was all over but the physical. Well, now the physical is over.

As first reported by Joseph Person of The Athletic, Mayfield has completed and passed his entry physical with the Carolina Panthers. That now, of course, makes Wednesday’s trade officially official.

Usually, these types of procedures are pretty cut and dried. But Mayfield, who underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left (non-throwing) shoulder in January, wasn’t exactly certain to get the green light on Thursday.

Luckily for all parties, however, that was the case—as the fifth-year passer has apparently been cleared to go. So say hello to Baker and goodbye to a 2024 conditional fifth-round pick, Carolina Panthers fans.

Person also went on to note that Mayfield’s reworked contract should be finalized by next week. The former No. 1 overall pick’s new deal—one previously worth a guaranteed $18.8 million—will see the Browns pay $10.5 million, the Panthers pay approximately $5 million and Mayfield waive the remaining $3.5 million (recoverable in incentives) from his base salary.
