Bailey's big day: Top Greater Taunton H.S. sports performers for April 22-28

Another week of the spring high school sports season is upon us in the Greater Taunton area.

Last week, a freshman helped Taunton softball to an extra innings comeback win while Dighton-Rehoboth softball, featuring three pairs of sisters, bounced back from an early close loss for a pair of strong wins. Bristol-Plymouth softball continued to put its offensive prowess on display, while both Taunton and Dighton-Rehoboth baseball earned a couple of solid wins. Several area track athletes had top 10 finishes at the MSTCA Warrior Invitational while Bridgewater-Raynham boys lacrosse had a solid showing in the Coaches Cup.

Here's a look at all of the stats, scores and highlights from the fourth week of April.

Sunday

Baseball

Ben Miller led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (7-3, 5-2 SCC), tossing a complete game shutout giving up a hit and a pair of walks while striking out 11 and going 1-for-3 with an RBI at the plate as the Falcons beat Greater New Bedford 5-0 at home in SCC action. Maddex Mendoza went 1-for-3 with a run and a pair of RBIs while Charlie Roth went 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and Jordan Castro, Lucas LeTourneau and Aidan Melo each scored a run.

Boys Track and Field

Ancil Alexander won the discus with a top throw of 50.03 meters and finished third in the shot put with a top throw of 15.13 meters as Taunton finished tied for 13th overall with 14 points at the MSTCA Division 1 Relays at Franklin High School. The top track finish for the Tigers came from the 4x100 meter relay team of Kadon Jordan, Dmitrius Shearrion, Brayden Salvo and Usman Yusif, which came in eighth with a time of 0:43.73.

The 4x800 meter relay team of Riley Frisch, Dan Leet, Cole Bridges and Ryan Hall won with a time of 8:17.48 as Bridgewater-Raynham finished sixth overall with 30 points at the MSTCA Division 2 Relays at North Andover High School. The 4x200 meter relay team of Kauan Bento, Connor Johnson, Joseph Manning and Evan Bray finished third with a time of 1:31.25 while the 4x400 meter relay team of Johnson, Caiden Blake, Leet and Jack Hannigan finished fourth with a time of 3:27.49 and the 4x100 meter team of Manning, Bray, Johnson and Bento finished fifth with a time of 0:44.05. Marqui Galvin had the top Trojan finish in field events, coming in third in the long jump with a distance of 6.31 meters.

Girls Track and Field

Sophia Olaniyan finished third in the discus with a top throw of 31.7 meters as Taunton competed but did not place at the MSTCA Division 1 Relays at Franklin High School. The top track finish for the Tigers came from the 4x100 meter relay team of Chloe Blanc, Grace Inacio, Nevaeh Young and Sophia Hall, which came in ninth with a time of 0:52.21.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Alisha Gomes, Brenna Woodbury, Camden Strandberg and Lily Giurleo and the 4x800 meter relay team of Molly Jesson, Woodbury, Strandberg and Giurleo both finished third with respective times of 4:11.29 and 10:10.1 as Bridgewater-Raynham finished 15th with 12 points at the MSTCA Division 2 Relays at North Andover High School. Natalia Flores had the top Trojan finish in field events, coming in 19th in the long jump with a distance of 4.35 meters.

Saturday

Baseball

Caden Lindskog led the way at the plate for Taunton (9-3, 7-1 Hockomock), going 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs as the Tigers fell 3-2 to Durfee on the road in non-league action. Brayden Cali went 1-for-4 with a run. Alex Hebert Jr. took the loss after going 1⅔ innings in relief giving up a pair of runs (one earned) on on a hit. Cam Tomaszycki started and went four innings giving up a run on five hits and a walk while striking out four.

Boys Lacrosse

Shane Lynds led the way for Taunton (2-6, 1-5 Hockomock) with a pair of goals as the Tigers beat New Bedford 5-1 at home in non-league action. Braden Lachance and Jason Cashman each had a goal and a pair of assists while Jose Touron had a goal, Kevin Araujo had an assist and Oren Cullins made 14 saves in net.

Colin Carfagna led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (6-3) with a pair of goals while Braeden Silva and Jayson Kelleher both found the back of the net as the Trojans fell 16-4 to Needham at home.

Boys Track and Field

The 4x200 meter relay team of Matthew Suprenard, Joel DaSilva, William Dalton and Evan Thibert won with a time of 1:32.05 as Dighton-Rehoboth finished 10th overall with 15.5 points at the MSTCA Division 5 Relays at Seekonk High School. The 4x400 meter relay team of DaSilva, Suprenard, Seamus Sullivan and Dalton finished fourth with a time of 3:31.96. Jordan Dietz had the best Falcon finish in field events, coming in 11th in the triple jump with a personal best distance of 11.74 meters.

Girls Track and Field

Mari Lavigne won the javelin with a top throw of 33.05 meters as Dighton-Rehoboth competed but did not place at the MSTCA Division 5 Relays at Seekonk High School. The top track finish for the Falcons came from the 4x800 meter relay team of Caraline Corvi, Maggie Kazanjian, Riley Kazanjian and Hailey McCracken, which finished 10th with a time of 11:27.89.

Brayden Cali led the way at the plate for Taunton (9-2, 7-1 Hockomock), going 2-for-4 with a run and three RBIs as the Tigers beat Milford 8-0 at home in Hockomock action. Andrew Cali went 1-for-1 with a run and a pair of RBIs while Dwayne Burgo went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and Jared Spencer and Xavier Spencer both went 1-for-3 with a run. Jack Cali earned the win after going 6⅓ shutout innings giving up just a hit and a pair of walks while striking out six. Tyler Lacerda tossed the final ⅔ of an inning giving up a walk while striking out two.

Ace Fortin tossed the remaining ⅔ of an inning giving up a run on three hits while striking out one.

Softball

Sam Lincoln led the way for Taunton (9-0, 8-0 Hockomock), going all seven shutout innings giving up a hit and a pair of walks while striking out 17 and went 3-for-5 with a run and five RBIs as the Tigers beat Milford 16-0 on the road in Hockomock action. Bella Bourque went 2-for-3 with four runs and an RBI while Aniyah Bailey and Mia Torres both went 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, Tori Corrao went 2-for-6 with a pair of runs, Brooke Aldrich went 1-for-4 with a run and a pair of RBIs and Madison Crowley went 4-for-5 with an RBI.

Cam Cloonan led the way at the plate for Dighton-Rehoboth (8-2, 4-2 SCC), going 2-for-4 with an RBI as the Falcons fell 2-1 to Apponequet on the road in SCC action. Caleigh Cloonan went 1-for-3 with a run while Skye Harrison went 2-for-4 and Lucy Latour went 1-for-4. Edy Latour took the loss for D-R after going all six innings giving up a pair of runs (one earned) on four hits and five walks while striking out four.

Boys Lacrosse

Jaiden Solitro led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (3-5, 2-3 SCC) with six goals and seven assists as the Falcons beat Somerset Berkley 19-4 at home in SCC action. Jack Swan had five goals and a pair of assists while Jason Proctor had five goals and an assist and Fletcher O'Connor, Chris Rego and Pat Sintorn each found the back of the net.

Girls Lacrosse

Karina Bosco led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (4-3, 2-2 SCC) with six goals, including her 200th career goal, three draws and a pair of assists as the Falcons beat Somerset Berkley 17-5 on the road in SCC action. Gia Papa had a hattrick and a pair of assists while Olivia Thibert and Mara Levesque each had a hattrick and an assist, Ainsley Zibrida had a goal and three assists, Ava Morgado had a goal and an assist and Skyla Stott had an assist.

Boys Tennis

Taunton (0-7, 0-6 Hockomock) fell 3-2 to Milford on the road in Hockomock action.

Girls Tennis

Sarah Riveiro won first singles 6-0, 6-1, Morgan Smith won second singles 6-3, 6-3, Ava Olivadesa won third singles 6-0, 6-0 and the duo of Sam Parrett and Chrisha Charls won second doubles 6-2, 6-2 as Taunton (5-2, 4-2 Hockomock) beat Milford 4-1 at home in Hockomock action.

Nicole Kimball and Eily Mitchell earned wins at singles while the duo of Lily Cooley and Tamia McQueen scored a doubles win as Bridgewater-Raynham (5-2, 3-0 SEC) beat Silver Lake 3-2 at home in non-league action.

Boys Volleyball

Ian Hoskins had eight kills and Connar Dexter had six blocks as Dighton-Rehoboth (7-3, 6-1 TVL) fell 3-0 (17-25, 14-25 and 14-25) to Medfield at home in TVL action.

Ryan Mahoney went 2-for-3 while Jack Ritchie and Jack Haley both went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI and Carson Lanagan went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Cam Santos earned the win for B-R after going all seven innings giving up two runs on a hit and a pair of walks while striking out nine.

Zach Branco led the way at the plate for Bristol-Plymouth (3-5, 3-2 MAC), going 4-for-5 with an RBI off a walk-off single as the Craftsmen beat Southeastern 4-3 at home in nine innings of MAC action. Isabella Torres led the way at the plate for Bristol-Plymouth (5-3, 3-1 MAC), going 2-for-3 with a run and a pair of RBIs as the Craftsmen beat Southeastern 8-3 on the road in MAC action. Jessica Slavick went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs while Bree Aldrich went 1-for-4 with a pair of runs, Ari Richards went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI and Shelby Estrella went 1-for-3 with a run. Jayson Kelleher and Brendan Rosher each had a hattrick as Bridgewater-Raynham (6-2) beat Whitman-Hanson 8-5 on the road. Nikos Triantafillou had a pair of goals while Colin Carfagna recorded five assists.

Girls Lacrosse

Emily Keefe led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (3-5, 1-0 SEC) with four goals and two assists as the Trojans beat Silver Lake 14-5 on the road in non-league action. Erin Rennie had four goals while Ashley McLaren had a hattrick, Emily Long, Kate Lambert and Lexi White each found the back of the net and Audrey Lambert recorded an assist.

Scottie Heger and Landen Rodrigues both found the back of the net as Taunton (1-5, 1-4 Hockomock) fell 18-2 to Canton on the road in Hockomock action.

Girls Lacrosse

Cali Melo scored both goals and had a pair of draws as Taunton (0-6, 0-5 Hockomock) fell 14-2 to Canton at home in Hockomock action. Olivia Espada made 12 saves in net for the Tigers.

Bristol-Plymouth (2-5, 2-4 MAC) fell 13-7 to Upper Cape Tech on the road in MAC action.

Boys Tennis

Banks Beckwith won first singles, Thomas Hammond won second singles, the duo of Wyatt Cooley and Andrew Wagner won first doubles and the duo Zach Foley and Andrew Martin won second doubles as Bridgewater-Raynham (1-4, 1-1 SEC) swept Brockton 5-0 at home in SEC action. The Trojans won at third singles following a forfeit by the Boxers.

Girls Tennis

Nicole Kimball won first singles 6-0, 6-0 while Eily Mitchell won second singles 6-2, 6-1, Caroline Stull earned her first varsity win with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at third singles, the duo of Lily Cooley and Tamia McQueen won first doubles 6-2, 6-0 and the duo of Chloe Nichols and Selena Georgakopolos won second doubles 4-6, 7-0, 12-10 as Bridgewater-Raynham (3-2, 2-0 SEC) swept Brockton 5-0 on the road in SEC action.

Boys Volleyball

Dantae Bower performed well on the back row while Daniel Freitas set up the offense with assists, especially Travis Johnson and Ikechukwu Asiegbunam, as Taunton (2-7) beat King Philip 3-2 at home.

Tyler Cattoggio led the way at the plate for Bridgewater-Raynham (3-5, 0-1 Southeast Conference), going 1-for-3 with an RBI while Carson Lanagan scored a run off a walk as the Trojans fell 8-1 on the road to Lincoln-Sudbury in non-league action. Aniyah Bailey led the way for Taunton (7-0, 6-0 Hockomock), going 3-for-3 with three runs and seven RBIs off a pair of home runs, including a mercy rule-enacting two run shot, as the Tigers beat Attleboro 15-3 at home in five innings of Hockomock action. Bella Bourque went 2-for-3 with three runs and four RBIs while Brooke Aldrich went 2-for-4 with three runs and a pair of RBIs and Madison Crowley went 1-for-2 with a pair of runs. Cate Larson earned the win after going three innings giving up three unearned runs on a hit and a walk while striking out two. Sam Lincoln tossed two shutout innings in relief giving up a hit while striking out five.

Bree Aldrich led the way at the plate for Bristol-Plymouth (4-2, 2-0 Mayflower Athletic Conference), going 1-for-2 with a run and a pair of RBIs as the Craftsmen fell 9-5 on the road to Fontbonne Academy in non-league action. Isabella Torres went 3-for-4 while Shelby Estrella went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Victoria D'Aiello had a run off a walk. Aubrey Mabrouk took the loss for B-P, going five innings giving up eight runs (seven earned) on 14 hits and a walk while striking out six. Gabrianna Arrighi tossed the final inning, giving up a run on a hit and a walk while striking out two and went 1-for-4 with a run at the plate.

Cam Cloonan led the way at the plate for Dighton-Rehoboth (6-1, 3-1 SCC), going 2-for-3 with three runs and a pair of RBIs as the Falcons beat Old Rochester 14-1 on the road in five innings of SCC action. Lucy Latour went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and an RBI while Ally Bastis went 2-for-3 with a run and three RBIs, Corinne Braga went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, Haleigh Kelley went 1-for-1 with three runs and an RBI and Emma Horrocks went 0-for-2 with a pair of runs. Kylie Hillier earned the win after going three innings giving up a run on four hits and a pair of walks while striking out four before Hannah Carey tossed the final two shutout innings striking out one.

Boys Lacrosse

Bristol-Plymouth (3-4, 3-4 MAC) fell 9-7 to Blue Hills on the road in MAC action.

Dighton-Rehoboth (2-6, 1-3 SCC) fell 15-0 to Foxboro at home in non-league action.

Girls Lacrosse

Emily Keefe led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (2-5, 1-0 SEC) with a hat trick and three assists as the Trojans beat Dighton-Rehoboth 13-7 at home in non-league action. Grace LaRose also had a hat trick while Emily Long had a pair of goals and Erin Rennie, Lexi White, Izzy Rossi and Ashley McLaren each had a goal and an assist. Ainsley Yates made seven saves in net for B-R.

Bristol-Plymouth (2-4, 2-3 MAC) fell 12-5 to Fontbonne Academy on the road in non-league action.

Karina Bosco led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (3-2, 1-1 SCC) with a pair of goals, an assist, four ground balls and three draws as the Falcons fell 13-7 to Bridgewater-Raynham on the road in non-league action. Ainsley Zibrida and Mara Levesque each had a pair of goals and an assist while Gia Papa had a goal and a pair of assists, Kelsey Palmer had three draws and Angela Gabriel had three ground balls. Phoebe Braga made 12 saves in net for D-R.

Boys Tennis

Taunton (0-4, 0-4 Hockomock) fell 5-0 to Attleboro at home in Hockomock action.

Girls Tennis

Morgan Smith won second singles 6-4, 6-2 while Ava Alves won third singles 6-1, 6-0 and the duo of Janelle Garcia and Ava Olivadesa won first doubles 6-4, 6-2 as Taunton (2-2, 2-2 Hockomock) beat Attleboro 3-2 on the road in Hockomock action.

Boys Volleyball

Travis Johnson led the way for Taunton (1-7) with 15 kills, three digs and a pair of blocks as the Tigers fell 3-1 (14-25, 25-18, 20-25 and 25-21) to Barnstable at home. Daniel Freitas had 28 assists, a pair of digs and a block while Ikechukwu Asiegbunam had 12 kills and a dig.

Ian Hoskins led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (6-2, 5-0 Tri-Valley League) with 23 kills while Yasiel Rodriguez had 26 assists, Sam Courcy had 13 digs and Connar Dexter had eight blocks as the Falcons fell 3-1 (25-21, 16-25, 17-25 and 10-25) to Durfee on the road in non-league action.
