Auburn basketball to face West Virginia in 2023 SEC/Big 12 Challenge

AUBURN — Auburn basketball will face West Virginia in the 2023 SEC/Big 12 Challenge.

The Tigers will travel to Morgantown, West Virginia, on Jan. 28, 2023. It's the only nonconference game scheduled in the middle of Auburn's SEC slate.

This is the fifth meeting between Auburn and West Virginia and only the second in Morgantown. The Tigers won 59-58 there in 1984. The last time they played was a neutral site game in 2007.

Auburn will travel to West Virginia for the Tigers’ fifth all-time meeting with the Mountaineers. This will be the program’s second game at Morgantown, with the first a 59-58 victory on Dec. 29, 1984. Both teams last met in Birmingham in 2007. Auburn won 88-59, evening the all-time series.

The Mountaineers are led by 16th-year coach Bob Huggins. They don't appear in CBS' way-too-early top 25, where Auburn is ranked No. 13.

Auburn defeated Oklahoma at home in last season's SEC/Big 12 Challenge. The SEC has won the challenge five of the last six years, with 10 of the league's 14 teams selected to compete against all 10 teams in the Big 12.
