ASU football: Jalin Conyers, DeCarlos Brooks out Saturday vs. Fresno State

Arizona State's injury woes don't rest with just the offensive line any more. Junior tight end Jalin Conyers and redshirt junior running back DeCarlos Brooks are the latest players ruled out for Saturday's 7:30 p.m. game against Fresno State, according to an ASU spokesman.

Conyers, a 6-foot-4, 270-pounder, is perhaps ASU's top NFL prospect. He had six catches for 68 yards in two games so far this season and was coming off a breakout 2022 in which he tallied 38 receptions for 422 yards and five scores.

In Conyers' absence 6-8 Messiah Swinson is likely to see more playing time as well as possibly 6-5 Bryce Pierre.

Brooks, in his first year in the program after transferring from Cal, is the team's second-leading ball carrier behind Cameron Skattebo. Brooks has 21 carries for 90 yards as well as three catches for 19 yards.

The Sun Devils still have Skattebo to shoulder the load out of the backfield although sophomore Tevin White, junior George Hart and promising freshman Kyson Brown will be in the mix for some carries.

The Sun Devils are already without linemen Ben Coleman and Emmit Bohle while Isaia Glass and Cade Briggs missed last week's game and are questionable this week. In addition, lineman Joey Ramos has been playing with a broken hand.
