Armando Bacot calls UNC RJ Davis’ team

We’re inching closer to March Madness – let the anticipation and bracketology begin!

Several teams are still fighting to get inside Joe Lunardi’s bubble, while few are guaranteed locks. We know who conference contenders are, plus those whose only hope at a NCAA Tournament berth is winning their conference tournaments.

Where do the North Carolina Tar Heels sit? They’re atop the ACC and own the head-to-head tiebreaker with Duke. Despite sloppy mid-week play, which has turned UNC from a National Championship favorite into just another high seed, UNC is still going to be a tough out.

A major reason behind North Carolina’s strong play is the ascension of star guard RJ Davis, who has a legitimate chance to win National Player of the Year. He leads the ACC and is ninth in the country at 21.3 points per game, plus he’s near-automatic from the free-throw line (90.4 percent).

While Armando Bacot has captured Tar Heel Hoops headlines recently, registering a double-double in five consecutive games, he had this to say about Davis:

“It’s his team,” Bacot told ESPN.

This is a pretty major compliment to receive, particularly when UNC has received key contributions from just about everyone on its roster.

Davis responded to his star teammate, thankful to hear such praise when he wasn’t even selected as Preseason All-ACC.

“That means the world to me,” Davis responded. “It means a lot just to hear those words from him. I’m definitely honored and grateful to receive that kind of notoriety and recognition so far this year. I’ve been patiently waiting my turn.”

Davis and Bacot are one of the best Tar Heel duos in recent years. We’ll see plenty more of them in the coming weeks, as UNC has two more weeks of regular season action and the ACC Tournament.

Will the duo cap off their run as teammates with a seventh NCAA Championship?
