The Arizona Republic's high school football rankings after Week 2: Open through 1A

Here are The Arizona Republic's high school football rankings for each AIA conference through Aug. 26, 2023. The small schools have played two games with the big schools having played one. This also features our Super 10, representing the teams currently on track to compete in the Open Division playoffs, which will feature the top eight teams.

Super 10 (Open)

1. Chandler Basha Bears, 1-0

Took care of business behind QB Demond Williams Jr., in rout of Westwood, but things should get tougher Friday against two-time defending 6A champion Highland.

2. Peoria Liberty Lions, 1-0

Led by QB Navi Bruzon and RB Jon Wilson, the Lions showed they're in it for the long run and now faces a tough defense in Sandra Day O'Connor, which will try to control the line of scrimmage.

3. Scottsdale Desert Mountain Wolves, 1-0

So much firepower on offense and a defense that is going to be tough to score against in 5A. This is an Open team all the way.

4. Chandler Wolves, 1-0

They travel to play Mountain Ridge on Thursday after putting up 42 first-half points in rout of Cesar Chavez.

5. Scottsdale Saguaro Sabercats, 1-0

They opened the Zak Hill coaching era with a bang, taking advantage of short fields for scores in win over American Leadership Queek Creek, but will have to ready for an air show from Mountain View QB Jack Germaine.

6. Peoria Centennial Coyotes, 1-0

Defense is the name of the game after shutting out Desert Edge 13-0, but will see if the offense can get jump-started against Corona del Sol, which is looking to pull an upset after coming off a win over 5A Casa Grande.

7. Chandler Hamilton Huskies, 0-1

Back to basics after being humbled by Liberty 56-20 with a defense that needs to patch up quickly with a game against confident Desert Ridge, coming off a blowout win over Cienega.

8. Phoenix Sandra Day O'Connor Eagles, 1-0

These guys rolled up 400 yards on the ground with three backs each rushing for more than 100 yards while holding Chaparral to six points in opener. But can they do any better than Hamilton did against Liberty?

9. Phoenix Mountain Pointe Pride, 1-0

Travels to play in California at Palm Desert Friday after a closer-than-expected win over Valley Vista.

They need to find their offense after being humbled by Centennial. Will is start at Notre Dame Prep on Friday?
