Area's top performers for May 3-6 around Emmet, Charlevoix Counties

Here are the top high school sports performances from Friday through Monday around Emmet and Charlevoix counties.

There won’t be a set number of players chosen in each sport in a given period, just including performances which stood out and deserve recognition.

Check for another installment of top performers later this week.

TRACK AND FIELD 

Madelyn Hardy, East Jordan: Hardy is setting new PRs each time out and she did so again in Gaylord. She was first in the 100 hurdles in 16.73, a new PR, first in the 300 hurdles in a new PR of 50.54, was part of a first place 4x100 win (54.05) and first in the long jump in a season best 16-9.75.

Sam Mitas, Petoskey: Mitas was on fire at the Ken Bell Invitational this past Friday, coming through with a pair of new school records. He set the school record with a win in the 100 meter dash in 10.95, broke his own school record in the 200 in 22.44 and was part of a school record 4x100 team in 43.04.

Petoskey Girls 4x100 team: The PHS team of Nevaeh Leonard, Emma Mitas, Alexandra Petok and Madeline Loe set a new Petoskey girls record in the event in 49.88 seconds, which placed them first.

Juniper Rodham, Harbor Springs: Rodham picked up an overall win in the 3,200 in Gaylord recently, setting a new season best in 12:56.53. She was also part of a runner-up 4x400 team in 4:30.24 and runner-up 4x800 team in 11:21.78.

Ava Pawlick, Petoskey: Pawlick continued to be consistent for the PHS track team at Ken Bell, placing sixth in the 3,200 meter run in 12:14.39 and eighth in the 1,600 in 5:33.92, both personal records.

Brody Shaw, Petoskey: Shaw set a new personal record in the shot put with a show of 50-feet even, placing him first at Ken Bell, while also taking fourth in the discus in 145-6.

Logan Shooks, East Jordan: Shooks finished first in the 110 hurdles in Gaylord in 16.56, was fourth in the 300 hurdles in 45.71, helped lead the 4x100 team to a win in 45.87 and also ran with the 4x200 team.

Adam Ferguson, Harbor Springs: Ferguson earned the victory in the 3,200 for the Rams in 10:43.63, a new PR, then also helped the 4x800 team to a win in Gaylord in 8:47.44.

Petoskey Boys 4x100 team: Petoskey’s group of CJ Hibbler, Seth Marek, Mitch Eberhart and Sam Mitas turned in a new school record in the 4x100 in 43.04, second only to Rockford at Ken Bell.

June Kirkpatrick, East Jordan: Kirkpatrick was busy Friday at the Gaylord Blue Devil Classic, taking first in the 100 (13.70) in a new personal best, first in the 200 (27.64) in a new PR, then third in the 400 with a new PR (1:02.56). She also helped the 4x100 team to a win (54.05).

Sarah Bailey, Petoskey: Bailey set a new PR in the 300 hurdles at Ken Bell with a time of 47.56, placing her second overall. She was also seventh in the pole vault (9-9).

Alexandra Petok, Petoskey: Petok placed fourth in the 300 hurdles with a new personal best in 48.58, was part of a school record in the 4x100 in 49.88 and was part of a runner-up 4x400 team in 4:16.83 at Ken Bell.

Izzy Boyer, East Jordan: Part of a strong throwers group, Boyer was first in the shot put in Gaylord (35-8.5), then second in the discus (104-0).

BASEBALL 

Owen Waha, Charlevoix: Waha has really turned it on of late. He was 2 for 3 with two doubles, two runs scored and struck out five over three innings in a win over Greenville. He also went three innings, allowed no hits or walks and struck out five against Boyne City Monday, adding a 3 for 4 game with two doubles and five RBIs.

Garrett Wodek, Petoskey: Wodek helped Petoskey to its third walk-off win Saturday with an RBI single against Greenville. He also pitched 2 2/3, allowed a lone hit and struck out three.

Vaughn Henagan, Harbor Light: Henagan showed he’s more than just a golfer recently, going 4 for 4 with an RBI and three runs against Brimley in a 7-5 win. He also triple and drove in two runs in a 17-2 win over Boyne Falls, then went 2-3 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored in a 19-2 win Monday.

Troy Johnson, Alanson: Johnson went 3 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored in a 13-10 win over Ellsworth.

Chase Kruzel, Harbor Springs: Kruzel was a bright spot in a 6-4 loss to Elk Rapids Monday, going 2 for 3 with a double, two runs cored and an RBI.

Bryce Johnson, Charlevoix: Johnson stayed hot of late with a 2 for 3 game that came with a double and two RBIs against Greenville, then a 12-strikeout, six inning 3-0 win over Boyne City Monday. He allowed just a lone hit. He was also 4 for 4 in an 18-1 win over the Ramblers.

Korbyn Russell, East Jordan: Russell stood out against Kalkaska Monday with six innings pitched, 15 strikeouts and two hits allowed. He also doubled, then doubled and drove in a run. EJ won both games in scores of 3-2 and 3-1.

AJ Speigl, Charlevoix: Speigl came through with a 2 for 2 night with three RBIs, three runs scored and two steals against Boyne City in the 18-1 win.

Don Honeysette, Alanson: Honeysette put together a four-RBI game against Ellsworth, going 2 for 4 with a double.

Charlevoix's Ryan Pearl continued to swing a solid bat over the weekend and into Lake Michigan Conference play Monday.

Ryan Pearl, Charlevoix: Pearl has been a force for Charlevoix this season and was against Boyne Monday, going 3 for 4 with three RBIs, a double and run scored in an 18-1 win. He also had an RBI single against Greenville Saturday.

Jacob Haley, East Jordan: Haley finished a perfect 3 for 3 with an RBI in a 3-1 win over Kalkaska Monday.

Will Paulus, Harbor Light: Paulus pitched six innings with one hit allowed and 11 strikeouts in a 6-0 win over Mackinaw City, was 2 for 4 with two RBIs against Brimley in a 7-5 win, then went 2 for 2 with three runs and an RBI in a 17-2 win over Boyne Falls.

GOLF 

Ryan Reynolds, Boyne City: Reynolds carded a team-best 75 in the Petoskey Invite at Bay View Country Club in Petoskey Monday, placing him eighth overall.

Vaughn Henagan, Harbor Light: Henagan, who also makes the list here as a baseball player, carded a 71 on Monday during the Petoskey Invite, finishing the day with five birdies. He was third overall among the nearly 100 golfers.

SOFTBALL 

Delaney Vollmer, Boyne City: Vollmer had a 3 for 3 game with two doubles and three RBIs in a 10-1 win over Charlevoix, while also earning the pitching win with seven strikeouts.

Katelyn Dittmar, Boyne City: In a 10-1 win over Charlevoix, Dittmar went 2 for 3 with a double, four runs scored and two steals. She also scored four more runs and had two more steals in a 15-0 win Monday.

Jordan Malec, Petoskey: Malec had a strong pitching performance in an 8-0 win over Rogers City over the weekend, tossing six innings with one hit and no walks allowed. She also struck out seven.

Ava Kenwabikise, Harbor Light: Kenwabikise finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs, a double and run scored in an 18-12 loss to Pellston recently, then also tripled and had two RBIs Monday against Boyne Falls.

Sidney Bush, Boyne City: Bush stood out as a pitcher and hitter in a 15-0 win over Charlevoix, going four innings with one hit allowed and striking out eight. She also went 2 for 3 with an RBI and three strikeouts.

Caitlyn Burks, East Jordan: Burks finished 2 for 2 with a double in a 10-0 loss against Kalkaska Monday, then also scored a run and singled in a 5-2 win.

Emily Good, Harbor Light: Good had a pair of standout recent games, going 2 for 3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored, then also 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs.
