Area basketball roundup for Dec. 14: Sanborn Central/Woonsocket boys surge past Corsica-Stickney

Dec. 14—FORESTBURG, S.D. — Sanborn Central/Woonsocket boys basketball continued its hot start to the season with a convincing 54-26 win over Corsica-Stickney on Thursday night.

Propelled by 22 points from Jeff Boschee, the hosts shot at a 51.2 percent clip from the field, and hit a combined seven 3-pointers. The Blackhawks' defense was suffocating, holding the Jaguars' offense to 26 percent shooting and below ten points in each quarter.

After leading just 21-15 at halftime, SCW hit its stride in the third quarter, outscoring C-S 18-4 to build a 39-19 lead. In the fourth quarter, the hosts tacked on 15 points to extend the margin.

McCoy Schulz aided the Blackhawks' scoring effort with 11 points, while Trey Moody had seven assists and Boschee forced three steals. Luca Catapano was the Jaguars' leading scorer with six points; Austin Krogstad and Lincoln Bruinsma each had four rebounds.

On Tuesday, SCW (3-0) will host Mount Vernon/Plankinton, while Corsica-Stickney (1-2) gears up for the Hoop City Classic, when it plays Viborg-Hurley on Dec. 28 in Mitchell.

FORESTBURG, S.D. — Sanborn Central/Woonsocket overcame an early deficit to win its third-straight game Thursday night. After Corsica-Stickney lept out to a 17-8 lead, the Blackhawks quickly soared past them to snag a 45-35 win.

SCW outscored C-S 31-12 in the middle quarters to lead 39-29 into the fourth quarter, and maintained the lead.

Liz Boschee led the Blackhawks with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Kam Ochsner had 13 points, and Kenna Ochsner had seven points and seven rebounds. SCW forced 19 turnovers, including four steals from Kali Hofer.

Braylee Bordewyk powered the Jaguars with 10 points and four rebounds, while Jacey Kemp had eight points and two assists, and Sophie DeLange had six points and seven rebounds. C-S shot 36.6 percent from the field, opposed to 29.8 percent shooting night from SCW, but the Blackhawks put up 16 additional shots.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket hosts MVP on Dec. 19, and Corsica-Stickney welcomes Freeman Academy/Marion on Dec. 29.

KIMBALL, S.D. — The Kimball/White Lake boys basketball team earned its first win of the season on Thursday night, cruising past Mitchell Christian for a 65-24 win.

KWL led 19-2 after one quarter and 39-8 at halftime. Blake Leiferman had 23 points and 13 rebounds, with 13 points and five assists from Park Sinclair. Keaton Christensen scored eight points for the Wildkats, who committed only eight turnovers.

No stats were reported for the Golden Eagles, who fell to 0-3.

KWL (1-2) will visit the Corn Palace on Monday, Dec. 18 to play Hanson. MCS is in action at the Huron Holiday Classic on Dec. 30 against Crazy Horse.

* A pair of Huskies surpassed the 20-point mark in Bridgewater-Emery's 75-38 rout of Menno. Ben Weber had 27 points, Holden Wollmann had 20 points, and Camdyn Stoterau had a near double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds. Isaac Fergen and Izayah Ulmer each tabbed 12 points for the Wolves.

* Gregory defeated Colome 73-28. For the Gorillas, Daniel Mitchell had 21 points, Lincoln Juracek had 10 points and Cruz Klundt added eight points. Joseph Laprath scored a team-high 14 points for the Cowboys.

* Wagner outscored Tripp-Delmont/Armour 22-9 in the second half on its way to a 36-29 victory. Jesse Zephier led all players with 12 points for the Red Raiders, while Preston McFayden finished with 10 points. Isaac Wunder was the leading scorer for the Nighthawks with 10 points.

* Rylan Gerlach scored 20 points, and Ethan surged past James Valley Christian 63-49. Gage Hohn added 17 points, and Drake Gustafson had 12 points. For JVC, Dax Frandsen had a team-high 11 points.

* Tanner Dyk scored 24 points to lead four scorers in double figures in a 78-47 win for Platte-Geddes over Burke. Braxton Breukelman had 16 points, while Hayden Sprik had 13 points and seven rebounds and Parker Bailey tallied 10 points and seven rebounds. Bryce Bartling had 17 points while Reed Benter had 16 points for Burke.

* Landon Thury's 24 points wasn't enough for Avon, which fell to Centerville 59-49. Aziah Meyer had 13 points for the Pirates, while Aiden Bobzin had a team-high 18 points for Centerville.

* Andes Central/Dakota Christian at Gayville-Volin, in Gayville

* Tage Ortman had a game-high 27 points, and Canistota handled Freeman 64-39. Brady Scott added14 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Hawks, while Cayden Scott had eight points. Freeman's Rocky Ammann had a team-high 13 points, and Luke Peters tabbed 10 points.

* Three Titans scored double digits, and Mount Vernon/Plankinton defeated Miller 54-38. Zach Baker had 14 points, Tyce Feistner had 12 points and Brady Fox had 12 points. Baker also dished out 10 assists to complete the double-double.

* Ashlyn Koupal's double-double of 31 points and 16 rebounds was enough for Wagner to cruise past Tripp-Delmont/Armour 73-29. Macy Koupal tacked on 15 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Lydia Yost finished with 12 points and eight boards for the Red Raiders. Megan Reiner led TDA with 18 points and five steals.

* A 16-4 third-quarter margin was the difference as Winner defeated Burke 56-42. Kylie Sachtjen and Ava Craven finished with 14 points each for the Warriors in the win. Paige Bull led the Cougars with 11 points, seven rebounds, and three steals.

* Twenty-seven points from Josie Brouwer powered Andes Central/Dakota Christian to a 59-46 victory over Gayville-Volin. Brouwer also had seven rebounds and four steals. Nadia Van Zuidam finished with 10 points and six rebounds for the Thunder. Taylor Hoxeng had 11 points and four assists for the Raiders.

* Big games from Emilee Fox and Reagan Rus helped Mount Vernon/Plankinton defeat Miller 66-36. Fox had 26 points, seven assists, and five rebounds, while Rus finished with 21 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Miller's Morgan Kolda led the Rustlers in the scoring column with 13 points.

* A 23-5 third-quarter margin helped Centerville pull away from Avon by a score of 65-33. Thea Gust led all players with 20 points and four assists, while Emma Marshall had 17 points and a game-high four steals for the Tornadoes. Rylin Thury led the Pirates with 12 points, five rebounds, and two steals.
