Anton Cordes nets five in a 7-1 Minnesota West thriller over Lake Superior College

Sep. 24—DULUTH — A red card shown to Lake Superior College in the third minute of a conference game against Minnesota West opened up a Bluejay scoring bonanza on Sunday.

Six first half goals by the Bluejays lead to an impressive final score of 7-1 over the Ice Hawks.

The victory came from just 11 Bluejay players — who were unable to make any substitutions in the game. It was also the first time in program history that the Bluejays won a Minnesota College Athletic Conference game on the road.

Scoring five goals was German forward Anton Cordes. Cordes scored on the free kick after Lake Superior's red card. Cordes also was the player who drew the foul from the Ice Hawks last defender.

Cordes scored all five of his goals in the first half. One of his goals came on a Dalen Gonzalez penalty kick rebound.

Scoring in the final minutes of the first half was Prince Lebbi Jr — who connected his head on a Edgar Carrillo cross.

The Ice Hawks broke up Minnesota West's clean sheet with 17 minutes to go in the second half. Goalkeeper Eli Robinsom made several other strong saves in net.

A few minutes after conceding their first goal, Minnesota West's Lebbi Jr added his second goal of the game.

The victory places Minnesota West on a strong track to win a home game for the upcoming conference playoffs.

Their next game will continue a streak of playing conference opponents. The Bluejays will travel to play rival Riverland this Wednesday.
