Anderson County rallies past Spencer County for Eighth Region girls basketball title
The Anderson County High School girls basketball team is heading to the Sweet 16 for the fourth time in five years.
The Bearcats used a 12-4 run to close the game and rally for a 36-33 victory over visiting Spencer County in Saturday’s Eighth Region Tournament final.
Ranked No. 7 in the state, Anderson County (32-2) beat Spencer County for the fourth time this season. The Bearcats will face Sixth Region champion Butler at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the first round of the Mingua Beef Jerky/KHSAA Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena.
Jenna Satterly and Faith McGregor both scored 12 points to lead Anderson County, which won the Eighth Region title three straight years from 2020-22.
The Bearcats trailed 27-22 after three quarters before rallying in the final minutes. Satterly’s layup with 3:21 left gave Anderson County the lead for good, 32-31. Satterly also sank two free throws with 20 seconds remaining for the final margin.
Ella Brown scored 20 points to lead Spencer County (23-12).
