Amadou Onana confirms plans to join an 'international world club' amid Arsenal and Chelsea links
Everton midfielder Amadou Onana has reaffirmed his desire to play for an “international world club”.
The Toffees star is of interest to Arsenal this summer and is one of the midfielders the Gunners have looked at, along with Bruno Guimaraes and Martin Zubimendi respectively.
Standard Sport understands Mikel Arteta is in line for more backing this summer as the club look to overcome Manchester City in pursuit of a first Premier League title in more than twenty years.
They are thought to have tracked the 22-year-old for over a year now and Onana recently hinted he would be looking to use Belgium’s campaign at Euro 2024 as an opportunity to put himself in the shop window.
“At previous tournaments you have seen that the players who did well make the step up to the top clubs,” he told Het Laatste Nieuws.
“That’s something I strive for.
“I feel like presenting myself to the European top and showing what I have to offer. This European Championship is a stage.”
Chelsea have also previously considered Onana, who rejected West Ham when moving to Goodison Park from Lille in the summer of 2022.
The Blues, however, have since signed Moises Caicedo and are likely to focus on strengthening in goal, at left-back and up front this summer having recently signed Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer from Fulham.
While Onana stressed he was respectful of his Everton contract running until 2027, he hinted at a possible move when speaking to Hamburger Abendblatt.
“I want to be a much better player,” he said.
“And my goal is to play for an international world club in three years. I also want to have qualified with Belgium for the 2026 World Cup in America in three years. I dream about that. And I will do everything I can to make these dreams come true too.
“I have to and will answer this very professionally: I’m under contract with Everton – and I’ll leave everything else to the media. I’ll just do my best at the European Championships and then we’ll see.”
