Could Nick Saban come in third as a write-in candidate in Tuesday’s Alabama U.S. Senate election?

Voting has (finally) begun in the state’s highly-publicized special election between Doug Jones (D) and Roy Moore (R). Many residents of the solidly-Republican state are wondering how they should vote given the multiple accusations of sexual misconduct against Moore.

One man’s solution to not vote for Moore was to write in the Alabama coach. Here’s what he had to say to MSNBC.

Saban was undoubtedly going to be a popular write-in candidate even before this video was published Monday telling people how to vote for a write-in candidate. Look at the name on the ballot in the write-in spot.

Don’t count on Saban himself getting involved in the election — for understandable reasons. It does him no good to endorse a candidate, though he’s probably one of the few people in the state of Alabama who could actually persuade people to change their votes. And anyway, he claimed last fall that he had no idea Tuesday, Nov. 8 was the presidential election day.

On the Auburn side of things, a fan asked Auburn running back Kerryon Johnson if he could write in Johnson’s name in the election. Johnson declined the offer and asked the man to vote for Jones instead.

Jones’ campaign was enthused.
