Alabama high school softball: 23 Tuscaloosa area standouts to watch in the postseason

With the Alabama high school softball season turning to the state playoffs, there are plenty of Tuscaloosa area teams in the hunt for a state title.

In the AHSAA, area tournaments get underway this weekend, all leading up to the state tournament which is being held May 13-17. In the AISA, the first round of playoffs start this week, with the state tournament being held May 2-4.

Here are 23 players to watch this softball postseason from the Tuscaloosa area.

Ronni Kate Ward, Brookwood

Why: The senior catcher has a batting average of .329 and an on-base percentage of .447 to go with 23 RBIs.

Shelby Meador, Brookwood

Why: Meador, a junior outfielder, has a batting average of .344 and an on-base percentage of .459. She also has scored 26 runs and stolen 22 bases.

Amori Morrison, Brookwood

Why: The sophomore pitcher/first baseman has pitched 106 innings with 77 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.50.

Kinley Owens, Fayette County

Why: The junior center fielder has a batting average of .409 with 32 hits, 25 RBIs, 24 runs scored and nine stolen bases. She has a .914 fielding percentage.

Aubrey Deavours, Fayette County

Why: The freshman third baseman has a batting average of .321 with 25 hits, 21 RBIs, 15 runs scored and nine stolen bases. She also has a fielding percentage of .782 on 78 total chances.

Skyi Lewis, Fayette County

Why: The freshman shortstop has a batting average of .304 with 21 hits, 15 RBIs, 22 runs scored and 19 stolen bases. She has a fielding percentage of .826 on 138 total chances.

Marti McCluskey, Hillcrest

Why: The junior catcher/infielder has a batting average of .512 with 34 RBIs, eight doubles and six home runs in 82 at bats.

Emily Rice, Hillcrest

Why: From the plate, Rice has a batting average of .412 and 21 RBIs in 83 at-bats. From the circle, she has an ERA of 1.44 with six saves.

Nichole Dockery, Hillcrest

Why: The shortstop has a batting average of .416 with 33 runs scored and 11 doubles in 89 at-bats along with 18 stolen bases.

Gracie Dice, North River Christian Academy

Why: The catcher/middle infielder has a batting average of .493 with a fielding percentage of .991.

Ramsi Kittrel, North River Christian Academy

Why: The pitcher/middle infielder has a .415 batting average to go with an ERA of 2.774.

Emma Champion, North River Christian Academy

Why: The middle infielder has a batting average of .563 to go with 30 RBIs and three home runs throughout the regular season.

Caroline Jones, Northside

Why: The sophomore catcher has a batting average of .482 for the Lady Rams to go with 43 RBIs and seven home runs.

Emma Bennett, Northside

Why: The junior center fielder has a batting average of .402 with 40 runs scored and 38 stolen bases.

Baylee Appling, Northside

Why: The eighth-grade pitcher has pitched 114 innings with 14 wins and two saves. She has struck out 69 batters and has an ERA of 2.259.

Kynlee Taylor, Sulligent

Why: The eighth-grade pitcher has pitched 67 innings with 48 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.90. From the plate, she has a batting average of .471 with an on-base percentage of .500 to go with 38 RBIs and four home runs.

Ella Wheeler, Sulligent

Why: The junior middle infielder has a batting average of .459 with a .570 on-base percentage and 21 RBIs.

Maddie Lann, Sulligent

Why: The junior outfielder has a batting average of .434 and an on-base percentage of .500 to go with 30 RBIs.

Lily Lucas, Tuscaloosa Academy

Why: The freshman pitcher/infielder has a batting average of .400 with 19 stolen bases.

Anna Claire Johnson, Tuscaloosa Academy

Why: The eighth-grade shortstop/utility player has a batting average of .400 to go with 14 stolen bases.

Holly Beth Brooks, Tuscaloosa County

Why: The junior catcher and Alabama softball commit has a batting average of .398 to go with an on-base percentage of .446. She also has 26 RBIs, seven doubles, four home runs and has caught 10 runners stealing.

Peyton Earp, Tuscaloosa County

Why: The center fielder/pitcher has a batting average of .323 with 15 RBIs, seven doubles, three triples and 15 stolen bases. From the circle, she has pitched 66 innings with a 1.909 ERA and 51 strikeouts.

Karlie Beth Beasley, Tuscaloosa County

Why: The junior has pitched 40⅔ innings with an ERA of .861 and 61 strikeouts.
