Alabama high school soccer: 21 Gadsden area boys and girls players to watch in postseason
The Alabama high school soccer season has reached the playoffs.
With Class 6A starting boys and girls playoffs on Thursday and the rest of the classes starting Monday, it's time to look at some of the top players in the area. The state tournament will again be in Huntsville from May 8-11.
Here are some of the top boys and girls soccer players from around the Gadsden area still playing in the playoffs:
Boys
Brandon Cervantes, Gadsden City
Why: Cervantes has 47 steal/tackles on the year with five goals.
Hayes Cosby, Southside
Why: The leading goaltender for the Panthers, he has five shutouts on the year and a 13-0-1 record. He has 64 saves and has allowed 15 goals.
Dimitri Guerrero, Gadsden City
Why: Guerrero has 17 goals and seven assists on the year.
Aaron Herrera, Collinsville
Why: Herrera has 36 goals on the year with 15 assists.
Luis Miguel, Collinsville
Why: Miguel has 13 goals on the year with 16 assists.
Caleb Ogle, Southside
Why: Ogle is second on the team with 11 goals on the season across 22 games played.
Camren Thompson, Southside
Why: One of the most prolific goal scorers in the area, Thompson has 45 goals on the season to go with seven assists for one of the top teams in Class 5A.
Ouzeiph Toumiba, Southside
Why: Toumiba has come on strong as of late and has six goals and three assists on the year. He scored three goals with three assists in the final two area games of the year.
Girls
Anna Klaire Ashley, Gadsden City
Why: Ashley has five goals with two assists but shines more on the defensive side with 72 steals/tackles.
Kinsey Carter, Southside
Why: Carter leads the Panthers with 26 goals on the year and can distribute the ball with 18 assists.
Avery Chadwick, Fort Payne
Why: Chadwick is one of the top players for the area runner ups and looks to make a statement in the playoffs.
Leslie Corona, Collinsville
Why: Corona leads the team with 33 goals and has 20 assists.
Camilla Garcia, Collinsville
Why: Garcia has 19 goals and four assists on the year.
Kelsey Jackson, Southside
Why: Jackson is one of the leaders of the Panthers defense and coach Tiffany Cargill calls her the "lifeline to our defense."
Hannah Maddox, Southside
Why: The Panthers goalie has made 88 saves on the year.
Fiyinfoluwa Oguntoyo, Gadsden City
Why: Oguntoyo has scored 11 times this year with seven assists.
Lexi Page, Jacksonville
Why: The eighth grade forward has scored a team high 33 goals with 11 assists.
Sarah Sloughfy, Jacksonville
Why: Sloughfy has a team leading 28 assists on the year with 18 goals.
Makayla Walker, Southside
Why: Walker has 15 goals and eight assists on the season.
Willa Kate Walker, Jacksonville
Why: Walker has 31 goals on the year for one of the top Class 4A teams.
Emerson Weaver, Jacksonville
Why: The eighth grade forward scored 23 goals with 21 assists.
