ADM boys golf, track teams win conference titles, esports advances to state
This week was nothing short of champion status for ADM. (Note: Events covered May 1-6)
Boys Golf
The Tigers made yet another big move this season, winning the Raccoon River Conference tournament on Monday hosted by Ballard.
Unlike last season’s contest that saw the Tigers take second place just four strokes behind Gilbert, ADM’s win was a dominant outing. ADM struck a 290 on the full 18 rounds, leaving North Polk a distant second place at 303 and Gilbert even further out at 311 for third place.
That was achieved by a remarkable three-way tie at the top with Grant Jansen, Easton Korell and Joey Currans all hitting 71 for the day for champion status.
In addition to the RRC win, head coach Nolan Gitch was voted the conference’s coach of the year.
Girls Golf
ADM repeated as runner-up in the RRC meet on Monday in Ames.
The team was led by Celie Gardiner with a score of 96 to place eighth overall. She also earned all-conference honors, leading the team with a combined average score of 48.6 for her senior year. That was nearly a three-stroke improvement. Aubrey Winter and Annelise Kreifels were honorable mentions all-conference.
Boys Track
After placing second the past three years at the Raccoon River Conference meet, the Tigers broke through for first place on May 1 in Carlisle. With 180 points, ADM had the equivalent of four first-place events of an advantage over second place North Polk.
At the end of the night, the Tigers walked out with eight championship events. And even if Brevin Doll didn’t win the 100 and 200-meter dashes, Aiden Flora was right behind in both events for second place. All of 0.16 seconds separated them across both races.
Girls Track
Just like the boys team, the Tigers dominated the RRC meet with 176 points won — 60 points ahead of the next-best Gilbert. But even with winning seven events total, the night didn’t come without drama.
With a new best time of 1:06.90 in the 400-meter hurdles, Madi James won by 0.08 seconds over her competition from Winterset that is currently ranked second in Class 3A with her season PR. James’ new PR moved her up to fourth on the leaderboard.
Boys Soccer (12-1)
Stamped with the No. 3 ranking in their class, ADM made light work of their conference bout on May 2 against Boone (3-9). That puts the Tigers on a seven game win streak with one more game left ninth-ranked Carlisle (9-4.)
But that won’t be the last time on their field in Adel, as the Tigers will host either Boone or Central Iowa United in their substate bracket as the top seed. The next top-seeded teams Cedar Rapids Washington (7-7) and Mount Vernon (6-8) hold the best chances to hold the Tigers out of the state tournament for the third season since making the cut in 2021.
Girls Soccer (5-7)
The Tigers’ lone appearance for the week came Monday against Dallas Center-Grimes, falling 5-0 to the Mustangs.
ADM’s regular season will cap off with two conference road games with Carlisle (6-3) and Boone (5-7) on Friday and Monday, respectively. With regionals underway the following week, the Tigers still have the opportunity for multiple wins and avoid the program’s first losing season in over a decade.

ADM earned a seat at the spring esports state tournament after a 113-87-64 win over Clear Lake and Spirit Lake on May 2 in Mario Kart. This is the Tigers’ second consecutive state appearance in the game.
