9 girls basketball players to watch in Fremont, Port Clinton for 2023-24 season

The regular season for high school girls basketball in Ohio officially started Wednesday, and teams will hit the court between now and the start of February to prepare themselves for the state tournament, which begins with sectional play on Feb. 12, 2024.

Here are some of the players in the Fremont and Port Clinton area, listed in alphabetical order, to keep an eye on for girls basketball in the 2023-24 season.

Elly Evarts

Gibsonburg's point guard is among freshmen to watch.

Cassidy Foos

The Lakota senior averaged 10 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.2 steals to earn first-team status in the SBC River Division. She'll have the ball in her hands more often this season.

DC Lanier

The Port Clinton senior averaged 18.7 points, four steals and nearly four rebounds to earn first-team status in the SBC Bay Division last season.

Macie Miller

The Old Fort senior returns from injury after taking SBC River Division player of the year as a sophomore.

Maria Maringer

The Danbury senior averaged 11.4 points, 3.5 assists and 3.1 steals for first-team in the SBC River Division.

Eden Palomo

The Margaretta senior was player of the year in the SBC Bay Division last year. She canned a single-season record 59 3-pointers. She averaged 10.6 points and 2.6 steals.

Hailey Rees

The Bellevue junior was player of the year in the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division last year. She averaged 16.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.8 steals.

The Fremont Ross senior shared player of the year honor in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference last season. She averaged 16.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.1 steals. She'll try to help the Little Giants make a grand entrance in the Northern Lakes League.

Katie Shiets

The Clyde junior averaged 10.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals.
