5 Things to watch in Penn State’s spring game

Football is in the air in State College in the month of April, and it is that time of year once again for the annual Blue and White Game.

Penn State’s spring game has taken it up a notch in previous years under James Franklin and this Penn State team is coming off one of its best years in program history. With that comes expectations being raised and more eyeballs on them.

It all starts in the spring game as mentioned but it can all be boiled down to five things that need to be looked at in the Blue and White Game.

What will we see from Drew Allar?

[autotag]Mike Yurcich[/autotag] has had a year and a half to get [autotag]Drew Allar[/autotag] wound up and he is now ready to pull the pin on the frag grenade in the Big Ten that is his 5-star quarterback. Getting to see how they utilize Allar will tell a lot about how this offense will look in the fall and how successful they can be with the most talented passer to step foot on Beaver Stadium’s grass.

Who will emerge as a leader for WR1?

Two transfers have come in with the speedy [autotag]Dante Cephas[/autotag] and enormous [autotag]Malik McClain[/autotag] to compete alongside the everlasting [autotag]KeAndre Lambert-Smith[/autotag]. McClain will begin competing for Drew Allar’s attention on Saturday and the targets he sees could be a picture of the future of who will get the most attention. (Cephas will join the program out of the transfer portal after the spring).

Position battles on offensive line

Outside of [autotag]Olu Fashanu[/autotag], this offensive line has a ton of questions. Every position is nearly in a battle for the starting job and seeing the rotations they use on Saturday and the success they have well be very interesting when Saturday night comes about.

Who will become a playmaker alongside Abdul Carter?

[autotag]Abdul Carter [/autotag]could be a first-round pick if he was draft-eligible today. He came in as a freshman and made an impact but he is losing two playmakers to the NFL and needs help. Players such as [autotag]Kalen King[/autotag], [autotag]Storm Duck[/autotag], and [autotag]Chop Robinson[/autotag] all need to step up, and seeing who can make plays on Saturday will be arguably the biggest thing to watch.

Recuiting commitments

Turn on Twitter notification for [autotag]James Franklin[/autotag] on Saturday because before, during or after every spring game is a prime time to land some recruits. Penn State will be hosting plenty of coveted players on Saturday so expect at least one, maybe two to commit to Penn State this weekend. Franklin doesn’t smile like in the picture above often but expect it on Saturday.
