5 things to know about Brian Callahan to Tennessee Titans, from Bengals' perspective

With the Tennessee Titans expected to hire Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan as their new head coach, the Bengals will need to replace their OC for the first time since 2019.

The Enquirer's Kelsey Conway confirmed Callahan's move, and added that Bengals quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher is expected to become Cincinnati's OC.

Here are five items of interest about the Titans' decision to hire the 39-year-old Callahan:

The Bengals are scheduled to visit Tennessee in 2024.

When the Bengals' 2024 schedule was revealed on New Year's Eve, the Titans were among road opponents listed.

So a reunion with Callahan is expected later this year.

Callahan has never been an NFL head coach, but his dad has.

Bill Callahan, who has been the Cleveland Browns' offensive line coach since 2020, was the interim head coach in Washington in 2019, and the Oakland Raiders' head coach in 2002 and 2003.

He was the head coach of college football's Nebraska Cornhuskers from 2004 to 2007.

Brian started his NFL coaching career as an assistant with the Denver Broncos in 2010.

He remained with the Broncos until 2015, coached QBs with the Detroit Lions in 2016 and 2017, and coached the Raiders' QBs in 2018 before becoming the Bengals' OC.

The Bengals were 3-1 against the Titans with Callahan as OC, including a playoff win.

The Bengals beat Tennessee in Cincinnati in November 2020.

Cincinnati won a postseason game in Nashville, 19-16, in January 2022.

And the Bengals won again in Nashville, 20-16, in November 2022.

But the Bengals fell to 1-3 this past season with an ugly 27-3 road loss to the Titans.

Pitcher is about 2 1/2 years younger than Callahan.

Callahan will turn 40 before coaching his first game with the Titans.

Pitcher turned 37 on January 13.

But Pitcher has been with the Bengals longer than Callahan, as Pitcher was hired as a Cincinnati offensive assistant in 2016, and was assistant QBs coach when the Bengals hired Callahan in 2019.

The Callahan news sparked Tee Higgins-to-Tennessee speculation, from Jason McCourty and others.

Higgins could get the Bengals' franchise tag, as The Enquirer's Kelsey Conway noted earlier this month.

But "Tee Higgins" was trending on Twitter shortly after news of Callahan to the Titans for a reason. And if the Bengals let him become a free agent or tag-and-trade him, some on social media thought Higgins might be inclined to join Callahan in Tennessee:
