49ers select OL Aaron Banks with 48th pick in NFL draft

The San Francisco 49ers with the No. 48 pick in the NFL draft selected Notre Dame interior offensive lineman Aaron Banks.

Banks, an Alameda native, is massive at 6-5, 325 pounds, and figures to slot in right away as competition for Daniel Brunskill at the starting right guard spot.

Pass protection is a strength for Banks, who’s a powerful run blocker and a mauler when he gets downhill. How he transitions to an outside zone run game will be something worth keeping an eye on once he hits the field for the 49ers.

The 49ers needed some higher-quality depth on the interior of their offensive front, and a longer-term answer at guard. Banks isn’t a shoo-in to start, but he does solidify their depth at one of the weakest positions on their roster.
