49ers have received interest about potential trade for QB Trey Lance

Trey Lance’s future with the San Francisco 49ers is murky at best. Following the emergence of Brock Purdy last season, Purdy seems on track to be the team’s future starter. Which has some NFL teams wondering if Lance could be available in a trade.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the 49ers have received interest from several teams looking to potentially trade for Lance. Rapoport noted that no trade is imminent.

“The conversations have been the result of San Francisco fielding the calls, not making them, with teams aware that Brock Purdy is likely the future starter,” wrote Rapoport.

While the 49ers have made it clear Purdy is QB1, there’s the immediate question about who will start the season opener in September. Purdy is recovering from UCL surgery, and his status for Week 1 is in doubt.

Then there’s the fact that San Francisco invested three first-round picks into landing Lance, who’s only started four games in two seasons. It’s hard to imagine the compensation in a trade would be enough for the 49ers to definitively move on from the former third overall pick who hasn’t seen the field much.

Fielding trade calls is nothing new for general managers, but it also doesn’t mean that a trade is going to happen.
