Americas pitcher Ruben Hernandez is Jarritos Athlete of Week
Ruben Hernandez of the Americas baseball is this week's Jarritos Athlete of the Week winner. He allowed one run in seven innings in a 2-1 victory against Odessa Permian in bi-district round of Class 6A playoffs.
Hernandez got nearly 50 percent of the vote, edging Joe Aranda of Clint.
The El Paso Times will be honoring high school athletes this year on a weekly basis that you, the readers, help determine. We will be taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the Jarritos High School Athlete of the Week each Tuesday.
Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will close at 2 p.m. Thursday and the winners will be announced Friday each week.

Here are this week's nominees:
Adelynn Rodriguez, Eastwood track and field. Rodriguez earned a bronze medal in the 3,200 meters at the Class 6A state track and field meet.
Danny Torres, Eastwood track and field. Torres placed fourth in the 3,200 meters at the Class 6A state track and field meet.
Daniela Ocaranza, El Paso High tennis. Ocaranza won the District 1-5A girls singles title.
Max Martin, El Paso High tennis. Martin won the District 1-5A boys singles title.
Mackenzie Baptist, Coronado tennis. She won the District 1-6A boys singles title.
Ian Uraga, Coronado tennis. He won the District 1-6A boys singles title.
Ruben Hernandez, Americas baseball. He allowed one run in seven innings in a 2-1 victory against Odessa Permian in bi-district round of Class 6A playoffs.
Joe Aranda, Clint baseball. He had 10 strikeouts and allowed one hit in win against Austin in the bi-district round of the Class 4A playoffs.
