A 36-point average, perfect shooting game: Vote here for the Athlete of the Week

For the week of Dec. 11-16, a lot of hardwood action was witnessed across the Fayetteville area, along with a few individual first-place winners from WRAL's HighSchoolOT Wrestling invitational over the weekend.

Highlighting those performances were two 1,000-point scorers, making history for their schools, and a 30-point scoring average by one of the top girls' players in the area.

Here are this weeks' six nominees for Dec. 11-16 Athlete of the Week and why they're nominated:

Jayda Angel, Cape Fear: Cape Fear's Elon commit had a stellar week for the Colts, leading them to a 2-0 week. Angel scored 36 and 37 points in the two games. So far, Angel is averaging 32 points per game on the season and leads her team in all major statistical categories.

Mac Johnson, Cape Fear wrestling: Johnson took home first-place honors in the WRAL HighSchoolOT wrestling invitational in the 106-pound weight class. (Fall 2:54)

Tye Johnson, Cape Fear wrestling: The freshman also scored first place in the WRAL HighSchoolOT wrestling invitational in the 113-pound weight class. (Fall 3:21)

Elijah Kindle, Northwood Temple: Kindle led the way for Northwood Temple versus Fayetteville Christian, dropping 30 points, while hitting five 3-pointers in the win.

Jordynn Parnell, South View: The sophomore forward was perfect for the Tigers in their conference opening win at home versus Seventy-First. Shooting 10-for-10 from the field, Parnell scored 21 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and swiped six steals to lead her team in crunch time.

Karsten Swinney, Freedom Christian: Swinney had an overwhelmingly great week, with his individual play. Despite the Patriots going 0-2 for the week, the junior guard scored his 1,000th point in a 26-point effort versus Berean Baptist, and 22 points versus Grace Christian.

HOLIDAY TOURNEY SLATE: Fayetteville-area holiday tournament basketball schedules are set

Coaches and athletic directors can nominate a player for athlete of the week by sending nominations to jfmoore@gannett.com by noon Sunday. Include the player's name, year in school, accomplishments for the week and a headshot.

This week's voting ends Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 7 a.m.
