3 reasons trading Tobias Harris would be foolish move for Sixers

As the underperforming Philadelphia 76ers (8-8) deal with a rash of injuries, one could assume president Daryl Morey might make a move.

Tobias Harris has had his name once again pop up in trade rumors. The veteran out of Tennessee is averaging 14.7 points and 6.2 rebounds while shooting 46.2% from the floor and 39.7% from deep. He is providing more than solid defense, but he has been out recently due to a hip injury.

It would be a foolish move to trade Harris despite his high salary and here are three reasons:

Sixers will not find a better player in his role

The Sixers will not find a better player in his current role than Harris. Nobody on this team has sacrificed as much as he has to make all of this work, and he has done it with no complaints. He has focused on the betterment of the team. He has morphed into a terrific catch-and-shoot option from deep and he rebounds and defends at a high rate.

Sixers need his shooting

Going off the last point, Harris has become a top catch-and-shoot player in the league. Per NBA Stats, he shoots 40.3% from deep off no dribbles. When the Sixers are driving into the paint, they can always kick it out to Harris and have him knock down shots. Even though he is the No. 4 option on this team at his salary, there is not a better option to replace him.

Sixers need his leadership

Some things can’t be measured by a box score or an advanced stat. When Philadelphia is down and in a rut, it needs somebody to speak up and guide the team through those tough times. That is what Harris does. He has become a vocal leader for this team. While Joel Embiid is the Sixers’ best player and PJ Tucker is a veteran, the Sixers lean on Harris to be a voice in the locker room.
