2024 winter MIAA state tournament MetroWest and Milford schedule and results

The path is set. Every MetroWest and Milford area basketball and hockey team that made the 2024 winter MIAA state tournament knows its first round matchup and its path.

There are 54 area teams alive at the start of the tournament. How long will they last? How many will be left standing at the end?

The opening rounds began Monday and will continue through the state finals March 17 at the TD Garden for hockey and March 15-17 at the Tsongas Center in Lowell for basketball.

Some teams were matched up with familiar faces, and others are taking long trips across the state. Keep up with all the action below:

No. 32 Dighton-Rehoboth 79, No. 33 Nipmuc 53

Division 1 Preliminary round

No. 26 Lincoln-Sudbury 59, No. 39 Medford 40: Evie Schwartz scored 18 points with four rebounds to send the Warriors (14-7) to the Round of 32. They will face No. 7 Weymouth (18-4) on Friday. L-S' Sarah Poland added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Carly McKeown contributed 10 points, seven assists and five steals.

No. 32 Lincoln Sudbury 4, No. 33 Lexington 1: Johnny Aliferis scored a goal and contributed an assist for the Warriors (6-15-1). L-S' Dante Vanuto, Keenan Kirk and Tommy Kinzgogl also found the net, while Noah Shapiro and Matt Mahoney added an assist each. The win sets up a 6:40 p.m. date with top-seeded St. John's Prep at the Essex Sports Center on Wednesday.

Division 4 Preliminary Round

No. 27 Millis 74, No. 38 St. Mary Parish (Westfield) 60: Senior Adam Hart posted 15 points and 10 rebounds in a double-double that sent Millis (10-11) to the Round of 32. Millis will travel to No. 6 Burke at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Division 5 Preliminary round

No. 32 Keefe Tech 71, No. 33 Mount Everett 59: Logan Greenlaw poured in 30 points with 15 rebounds to send the Broncos (11-10) to the Round of 32. Keefe Tech will face No. 1 Hoosac Valley at 6 p.m. Thursday. George Anastos canned three 3s for 15 points, and Noah Lyons scored 11 for Keefe Tech.

Girls basketball

Division 1 Preliminary round

No. 33 Methuen 70, No. 32 Algonquin 44: Ashley Dameri led three Titans in double figures with 14 points. Sophia Hjerpe and Brooke Adams scored 12 each for Algonquin (10-11).

Division 2 Preliminary round

Holliston junior Megan Simpson scored the 1,000th point of her career against Norwood on Tuesday. She's surrounded with her teammates after the basket.

No. 27 Holliston 49, No. 38 Bay Path 30: Junior Megan Simpson dropped 19 points with five steals for the Panthers (10-11). No. 27 Holliston will face No. 6 South Community High on Saturday in the Round of 32 at 3:30 p.m. Sarah Kuchman pulled down 12 rebounds for the Panthers, while Kaylee MacDonald contributed nine rebounds, five steals and five assists. Holliston's Sophia Lynch scored 10 points.

No. 32 Westborough 57, No. 33 Marblehead 49: Annabelle Semeter netted 13 points, and Kate Sams and Rachel Carpenter each added 11 for the Rangers (13-8). Westborough plays at 5 p.m. Friday at top-seeded Medfield in the Round of 32.

No. 22 Lunenburg 49, No. 43 Tri-County 31: Senior Gabby Dergham posted a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds and five steals in her final game for the Cougars (11-8). Tri-County freshman Neila Schweitzer pulled down 15 rebounds, and Jazmin Hancock scored eight points.

No. 31 Hopedale 3, No. 34 Somerville 0: Sean McGee had a goal and assist, while Aiden Collins and Joe Butler scored as the Blue Raiders (6-13-2) scored three times in the final period. Nathan Morin earned the shutout for Hopedale, which will travel to face No. 2 Shawsheen Tech at 7 p.m. Thursday at Hallenbourg Arena in Billerica in the Round of 32.

No. 28 Westborough 77, No. 37 East Longmeadow 56: Justin McCafferty had 20 points and 10 rebounds to power the Rangers (14-7) in Westborough. Alec Desrosiers (17 points) hit five 3-pointers for the Rangers, who will face fifth-seeded Mansfield in the Round of 32 at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Westborough's Nicholas Bellofatto added 16 points with two 3s.

No. 4 Xaverian Brothers 9, No. 29 Framingham 1

No. 12 Franklin 3, No. 21 St. Mary's 2 (OT): Anthony Lampasona lit the lamp in overtime to send the Panthers (14-8) to the next round. Franklin will host No. 28 Weymouth (10-11-1), which upset No. 5 Archbishop Williams, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Pirelli Rink. Ben Paterson contributed two assists, while Tom Quinn and Dylan McEvoy each scored once for the Panthers. Franklin goalie Colby Wagner made 34 saves, and Langevin had an assist.

No. 3 Catholic Memorial 4, No. 30 Natick 1: Jeff Tavares saved 38 shots for the Redhawks, while Jack Byrne found the net once for Natick (8-14).

No. 1 St. John's Prep 6, No. 32 Lincoln Sudbury 2

No. 16 Wellesley 3, No. 17 Belmont 2: Paddy Maxwell had an assist and the game-winning goal for the Raiders at Boston Sports Institute. Wellesley (15-4-2) will visit top-seeded St. John's Prep in the Sweet 16 at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Essex Sports Center.

No. 19 Watertown/Wayland 7, No. 15 St. Paul 4: James Erikson and Shane Desmond each notched a hat trick in the win. The Warriors (8-11-2) will face No. 3 Scituate (16-5-2) at 4:40 p.m. Friday at the Hobomock Arena in Pembroke.

No. 15 Blackstone Valley Tech 3, No. 18 North Middlesex Regional 2 (OT): Joe Manzi scored in overtime, and Chris Bouvier had a goal and two assists for the Beavers (18-3) at the Blackstone Valley IcePlex in Hopedale. Fifteenth-seeded BVT faces the winner of Shawsheen/Hopedale in the round of 16. BVT's Max Pilkington put away a goal in the second period, while Max Krauss contributed an assist.

Division 4 Round of 32

No. 24 Ashland 3, No. 9 Medway 0

No. 1 Winthrop 9, No. 32 Tri-County RVT 2

No. 17 Hudson 3, No. 16 Seekonk 2 (OT): Tim O'Malley scored on a feed from Jordan Sousa at 2:51 of overtime to send the Hawks (13-8) past the Warriors (11-10) at the New England Sports Village in Attleboro. O'Malley also scored in the second period, while Sousa tallied in the first. Hudson will travel to top-seeded Winthrop at 2 p.m. Saturday in the round of 16. Hudson's Luke Lewis contributed an assist.

No. 5 Dover-Sherborn 6, No. 28 Boston Latin 1: Brayden McKenna scored his 15th goal of the season with two assists in an opening round win for the Raiders (17-4). Max Niit found the net twice for D-S to send them to the Round of 16 against No. 12 Dedham at the Rivers School on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. D-S' Christos Rogaris had two assists, while Max Patenaude, Sam Hinckley and Matthias Sarnblad found the net once each for the Raiders. Sawyer Garzone, Cole McEwen and Benson contributed an assist each. Raiders goalie Andrew Goldstein saved 16 shots, including a breakaway.

No. 1 Notre Dame (Hingham) 7, No. 32 Franklin 1: Kaitlin Johnson found the net for the Panthers (7-14-1) from line mates Lily Santiago and Bridget Haggerty.

No. 3 Lincoln-Sudbury 5, No. 30 Arlington Catholic 0: Harper Friedholm put away two goals for the Warriors (18-2-1) at Valley Sports Arena. L-S will host either No. 14 Belmont or No. 19 Billerica in the Sweet 16.

No. 7 Shrewsbury 2, No. 26 Bishop Stang 1: Freshman Paige O’Donnell and junior Mia Ryder scored third-period goals as the Colonials (12-4-5) prevailed at NorthStar Ice Sports. Shrewsbury advanced to meet the winner of Thursday’s game between No. 10 Bishop Feehan and No. 23 Reading on Friday at 5:30 p.m. back at NorthStar. Lauren Albertson, Blair Fay and Kealy Fay each added an assist for the Colonials, while Risa Montoya saved 13 shots.

No. 8 Newburyport 60, No. 25 Hudson 50: Jake Attaway scored 20 points for the Hawks (11-11). Hudson's Jackson O'Brien added 15 points.

No. 16 Abington 72, No. 17 Medway 68: Caden Reisman dropped 17 points for the Mustangs (10-11). Medway's Jacob White added 16 points.

Division 4 Round of 32

No. 6 Burke 94, No. 27 Millis 57: Jason Fournier led MIllis (10-12) with 12 points.

Division 5 Round of 32

No. 1 Hoosac Valley 78, No. 32 Keefe Tech 54: George Anastos scored 16 points with three 3s for the Broncos (11-11) in the Berkshires. Keefe Tech's Logan Greenlaw added 12 points with nine rebounds.

No. 8 Hopedale 57, No. 25 Innovation Academy 32: Patrick Madden dropped four 3s and poured in 27 points to go along with nine rebounds for the Blue Raiders (11-10). Hopedale's Robbie Manning added 12 points, as eight Blue Raiders found their way to the score sheet. The Blue Raiders will host No. 9 Granby at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Girls basketball

Division 1 Round of 32

No. 5 Wellesley 42, No. 28 Durfee 28: Shannon Wellburn scored 17 points, and the Raiders (17-4) reached the Sweet 16. Tara Battaglino added 13 points, and Shea Wellburn scored 10 for Wellesley. The Raiders will host No. 12 Bridgewater-Raynham (15-6) at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

No. 13 Andover 45, No. 20 Franklin 43: Chloe Fales led the Panthers (10-11) with 15 points. Franklin's Norah MacCallum scored nine, and Lena Malymina added seven.

Division 3 Round of 32

No. 8 Dover-Sherborn 60, No. 25 Saugus 34: Erica Hill dropped a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds for the Raiders (14-7). D-S' Elliana Scalabrine contributed 24 points. The Raiders will host No 9 Pentucket (20-1) on Tuesday at a time to be determined.

No. 4 Millis 82, No. 29 Blue Hills RVT 23: Lindsey Grattan led four Millis players in double figures with 12 points. Kyra Rice added 11, while Grace Higgins and Molly Rand each scored 10. Millis will host No. 13 Wahconah (15-6) on Monday at 6 p.m. in the Round of 16.

Division 5 Round of 32

No. 11 Hopedale 48, No. 22 Granby 28: Phoebe Carroll messed around and got a triple-double with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals for the Blue Raiders (11-10). Hopedale's Mackenzie Reynolds contributed 15 points and six rebounds. The Blue Raiders will face either No. 6 Palmer or No. 27 Ware in the Round of 16.
