2 goals, 16 seconds: Nashville Predators make history with epic win over Avalanche

Filip Forsberg was busy trying to catch his breath while Yakov Trenin was causing Nashville Predators fans to lose theirs.

In a span of 16 seconds during the final minute of the third period Monday, those two managed to make Predators history.

And Forsberg missed the best part of the 4-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.

For the 11th time since 1943-44, an NHL team scored the tying and go-ahead goals during the final minute of a game.

That team was the Predators.

The comeback at Bridgestone Arena was launched by Forsberg's goal — his second of the game — with 38 seconds remaining, followed by Trenin's second goal of the season 16 seconds later.

"To be honest I was kind of catching my breath," Forsberg said of not seeing the final goal live. "It was a long shift before, and then all of a sudden the puck is in front of the net. . . . Good, old cleaning crew from 'Yak.' Just broom-sweeped it in, whatever you want to call it."

The Predators called it a victory against a team that is expected to compete for the Stanley Cup.

"I think we were thinking to bring the game to overtime and good things happened," Trenin said.

What happened was the Predators won their second game in a row. What happened was the Predators ruined Ryan Johansen's homecoming.

The Predators' next game is Wednesday against the Calgary Flames, a night when the team will honor retired general manager David Poile.
