12 Austin-area athletes and one relay to watch at the UIL state track and field meet

The Austin area figures to have its usual strong showing this week at the UIL state track and field meet at Myers Stadium. Here are 12 athletes and one relay to watch at the event:

Boys

Victor Aviles, Burnet: One of the state's top distance runners, the junior could medal in three events in Class 4A as he has one of the top times entering the meet in the 800 meters, 1,600 and 3,200.

Luke Bone, Austin High: The junior enters the meet with the fastest time in the 800 in Class 6A out of regionals at a flying 1 minute, 51.34 seconds. The Austin area could fare very well in the event with Lake Travis senior Noah Wood having the third-fastest time.

Xavier Drumgoole, Round Rock: The defending Class 6A champion in the triple jump is the overwhelming favorite to repeat. He soared farther than 50 feet in the event at the regional meet.

Caden O’Hara, Rouse: Having cleared 15 feet, 6 inches, the junior is a favorite to medal in the Class 5A pole vault.

Amir Thompson, Hendrickson: Will be in the running to medal in Class 5A in both the 100 and 200 after posting impressive times of 10.50 and 21.20 earlier this year.

Joseph West, Stony Point: Enters the Class 6A meet with the top long jump out of regionals at an impressive 24-4 3/4.

Round Rock 1,600 relay: The Dragons won the event at the Texas Relays and posted the third-fastest time out of regionals in Class 6A.

Girls

Faith Murphy, Anderson: The junior has the third-best time in Class 6A in the 800 coming into the meet at 2:09.11 and will be in contention to medal.

Isabel Conde De Frankenberg, Cedar Park: In her final meet of a distinguished prep cross-country and track career, the senior will be one of the Class 5A favorites in both the 800 and 1,600.

Peace Ese, East View: The sophomore should be in contention to medal in the 400 in Class 5A after posting the third-fastest time out of regionals.

Lily Muzzy, Georgetown: Enters the Class 5A meet with the longest triple jump by more than 11 inches and will be a favorite for the gold. She will also compete in the long jump.

Bethany Preusse, Thorndale: The freshman has the top throw in the Class 2A discus by more than 10 feet. Also qualified in the shot put.

Emma Wade, Vista Ridge: One of the state’s best distance runners, the junior will be in competition to medal in both the 1,600 and 3,200 in Class 6A.
