Zeller, McDermott highlight AP preseason All-America team

Indiana sophomore center Cody Zeller and Creighton junior forward Doug McDermott headed AP's preseason All-America men's college basketball team.

Zeller and McDermott were the leading vote-getters on the team, which was announced Monday.

Zeller received 64 of 65 votes, just one shy of a unanimous selection. McDermott's name was on 62 ballots.

McDermott, who was a first team All-America selection last season, averaged 22.9 points and 8.2 rebounds.

Ohio State junior forward Deshaun Thomas and guards Isaiah Canaan of Murray State, C.J. McCollum of Lehigh and sophomore Trey Burke of Michigan were also named to the team.

Canaan was a second-team selection last season after averaging 19.0 points and 3.6 assists. He received 43 votes this year.

Thomas was on 26 ballots while McCollum and Burke tied for fifth with 16 votes apiece.
