Texans sign FB Jones

Fullback Greg Jones, who spent the past nine seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, agreed to a free agent deal with the Houston Texans.

The contract is for one year, according to multiple media reports. The Houston Chronicle reported that the $1 million deal includes a $240,000 guarantee. Jones' base salary is $840,000, and he received a $160,000 signing bonus, according to the newspaper.

"Houston best fits me right now," Jones told the Chronicle. "I'm not going to say Jacksonville didn't make an offer. They made an offer. Just right now where I'm at in my career, I think Houston will be best for me right now. ... This'll be my 10th year. I've got more years behind me than in front of me."

Jones, 31, was a semi-regular ballcarrier in three of his first four pro seasons, but he's rarely handled the ball since 2007. Last year, he finished with five carries for 8 yards and 11 receptions for 64 yards while appearing in 12 games (four starts).

He's spent most of his time serving as a blocker for Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew.
