Syracuse University's football threads are getting a serious refresh. Come fall, the Orange will be donning Nike Pro Combat gear inspired by the “legend of 44” and New York State.

Since 1954, 11 Syracuse players have worn number 44, and three of them, all running backs, earned All-America honors—Jim Brown, Ernie Davis and Floyd Little. The number has become an integral part of the school's tradition, having been “woven into campus landscapes, zip codes and even the school’s phone extensions,” according to this press release.

The tall, narrow numbers on the uniforms evoke the skyscrapers that mark the New York City skyline. They also feature a 44-degree “V” linear pattern.

At home, the Orange will wear navy uniforms and orange helmets with navy embellishments. At away games, they’ll sport white uniforms with navy stripes and white-matte helmets. Their alternate uniforms come in steel gray with orange stripes and a navy helmet.

The helmets feature the familiar block “S,” the words “CUSE” on the front and “ORANGE” on the back, and an outline of New York State on the back, with the letter “S” placed where Syracuse lies geographically.
