Rockies' Helton gets probation for DUI

Colorado Rockies first baseman Todd Helton pleaded guilty to driving while impaired on Tuesday. He was sentenced to 24 hours community service and one year probation, in addition to a fine of $400.

Helton was arrested in February 6, when the Rockies issued a statement saying "Todd is taking full accountability for his actions with his family, his fans and the organization. The man we have grown to know has strong values that are grounded in his family and hard work. Todd clearly understands the severity of the situation."

Helton, 39, is in his 17th season with the Colorado organization. He was activated from the disabled list Monday and has played in 13 games, including his 16th straight Opening Day start at first base.

Helton is the Rockies' all-time leader in games (2,136), at bats (7,606), runs (1,363), hits (2,431), doubles (573), home runs (355), RBI (1,355) and walks (1,299). He was the Rockies first-round pick (eighth overall) in the 1995 draft out of Tennessee.
