Report: Yankees eye Rios

Alex R. might end up with the New York Yankees this week.

No, not the one being investigated by Major League Baseball. MLB.com reported Tuesday that the Yankees are interested in acquiring outfielder Alex Rios from the Chicago White Sox.

Earlier Tuesday, multiple media outlets reported that the White Sox and the Pirates were in discussions about Rios, but those talks have dimmed, according to numerous media outlets.

Rios was in the starting lineup for the White Sox on Tuesday at Cleveland, but he came out of the game in the eighth inning after fouling a ball off his left foot.

Rios remains a solid player, though he's never fully lived up to the expectations piled on him after he signed a seven-year, $70 million contract extension with the Toronto Blue Jays in April 2008. The Blue Jays dealt Rios to the White Sox in 2009.

This year, Rios is hitting .273 with a .324 on-base percentage, a .428 slugging percentage, 12 homers and 49 RBIs in 102 games.

Rios isn't the only White Sox mainstay possibly in play as Wednesday's non-waiver trade deadline approaches. Chicago pulled right-hander Jake Peavy from his scheduled start Tuesday night with rumors swirling that he could be dealt. Multiple media outlets reported that the Arizona Diamondbacks were the favorite to acquire Peavy.
