Report: USC targeting Sumlin
Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin has emerged as the top target of USC in the Trojans' search for a new head football coach, the Los Angeles Daily News reported.
Sumlin has won 30 games the past 2 1/2 seasons at Houston and Texas A&M and is a hot property. He is also mentioned as a possible candidate at Texas, although Texas still has a coach, Mack Brown.
Sumlin makes $3.1 million at Texas A&M and could possibly double his salary at USC.
Former Washington and UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel, now a college football analyst for the Pac-12 Networks, said on The Dan Patrick Show, "Sumlin might be the perfect choice."
According to the Daily News report, USC has also reached out to ESPN NFL analyst and former NFL head coach Jon Gruden.
Ed Oregeron is serving as USC's head coach for the rest of this season following the firing of Lane Kiffin.
