Report: Panthers' Newton fined $21K for conduct toward referee

The NFL has fined Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton $21,000 for abusive conduct toward a referee during last Sunday's game, according to CBSSports.com.

Game films showed Newton bumped referee Jerome Boger during the game against the Oakland Raiders after the official did not flag the Raiders for a late hit on the quarterback. Newton, though, was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct for "disrespecting an official."

Newton had yet to receive a fine in his two NFL season. He said Wednesday he did not expect to be fined.

After the game, Newton, who was wearing a microphone for NFL Films, apologized to Bogar in person and during his post-game press conference.
